Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting – 15th January 2015

Technical News

  • Two targets (HRS #506 and GPS Ho target) used as plugs for ISOLDE front-ends
  • Progress made on the new ISOLDE tape station
    • ​Demonstrator is working and will soon be turned into a prototype
    • Design of the tape boxes has been finalized

RILIS

  • Long-missing pump laser has been found in Building 157
  • Working on laser windows, offline separator and graphite cavity

ISOLDE Shutdown Activities

  • Taken out the old ISOLDE targets
  • Working on diagnostic boxes – exchanged GPS scanners 482 and 483, HRS.FC490 and wire scanner in LA1 section

ISCOOL

  • Working on installation of new He (pressure) controller
  • Soon: Modifications to the RFQ – injector electrodes

​Safety

  • Tourniquet behind ISOLDE will be connected beginning of March (earliest)
  • Morning of 27th January: Evacuation exercise in the ISOLDE hall
  • Maintenance of the RAMASES alarm unit ​
  • Building 508 – test of fire alarm system
    • ​Will be another test at 4pm on 22nd January – nobody should be in b508 at this point
  • Reminder: Contact Alexandre Dorsival for shipping any radioactive material outside CERN, especially possibly contaminated elements, like tape stations or collimators
  • Safety files for experiments: No safety clearance, no running
    • Still needed for IDS, TAS, NICOLE
    • Will look through existing files for any modifications that aren’t in files
    • Magda will check procedure for Building 508 – include in existing file or create a new one
  • Electrical safety course next week for ISOLDE locals on 21-23rd January
  • There will be a visit of the new DG to ISOLDE on 29th January at 10am
    • ​Clean setups before then
    • Organized common cleaning in morning of 28th January
    • Magda will place bins for metal/electronics soon
    • Magda and Maria will look at the end of next week to check setups

Schedule

  • Next INTC meeting will be 11 -12th February
  • ISOLDE startup
    • ​First protons just after Easter – April 7th TBD
    • Physics will start probably around 14th April TBD
  • Schedule will be in 3 parts again
    • ​Beam time requests will be sent around the time of the next INTC meeting – incl. offline beam time requests
  • Separator course will also hopefully be held towards the start of the setup
  • HIE-ISOLDE Physics will start mid-October TBD – No HRS at this time
  • Negative ions planned for the middle of the year – GPS TBD
  • End of physics will be either mid-November or mid-December TBD

​Building 508

  • Fire alarm system was tested
  • Transport is moving recuperation items out of SS lab to first floor
    • ​More recuperation items will arrive on Friday to fill the rooms in 508
  • There will be cleaning of the SS lab after all the furniture has been moved out
  • Temporary locks and keys have been installed – outside the SS and chemistry labs, the exterior doors downstairs and the one door upstairs
    • ​Magda has the keys and will be locking the building from Monday onwards
    • It will be 3 weeks (earliest) before the new locks and keys will be installed
    • All rooms will have the same keys – up to experiments to get separate keys
  • Please label items in SS lab from recuperation that you would like for your lab

​Building 275

  • The AD urgently need space in Building 275
    • There will be a viewing of Building 275 on Monday 19th January at 4pm
    • Please move as much stuff out of 275 ASAP – to long-term storage or 508
  • We will have to give up 50% of the building (ground and first floor) in the future – sharing 3 rooms with the AD
  • Discussion of space needed for ISOLDE Cluster – in 275 or elsewhere
