  1. Technical News and Experiments
  • IS467 : measured beta decay of 58,60-68Mn successfully. Some interruptions due to PS interventions.
  • EBIS cathode broke down and needs replacment. Possible delay of IS430 11Be(d,p) with REX.
  • A parallel experiment will look for beta delayed radiation from 11Be in the 20 degrees beamline.
  • Lasers will be changed to Be this week.
  • 7Be and 172Lu collections will be done at GLM until REX becomes operational
  • REX beam will be setup during the weekend.

  • Important dates :

– Week 49 : stop of both Front Ends (FE’s)

– Week 47 : start work on vacuum system (beamlines only available up to CA0)

– 07/12 : cooling water stop

– 27/02 : cooling water back

– 01/2010 – 04/2010 : installation new HRS frontend (FE#6)

– Startup of ISOLDE end of April – running period until end of November 2010

  • For equipment that needs to be shipped soon, RP checks have to be performed as soon as possible, since resources from RP side will be very limited next year.
  • ENSAR : Transnational Access money might be available for ISOLDE;

ISOLDE is involved in :

– the EURISOLnet network, i.e. R&D in view of EURISOL (coordination by Yorick Blumenfeld) ;

– NUTAPP : applications ;

– ACTILAB = research on actinide targets (coordination Thierry Stora) ;

– PREMASS : RILIS developments ;

Submssion of the ENSAR proposal in December, decision in March 2010. Possible start of contract September 2010

  • NUPECC Long Range Plan

– CERN is not represented in NUPECC, however many people from the ISOLDE community are members of the working groups

-Key questions in Nuclear Physics and what to build in the next years

– Fields are : 1/ Hadron physics; 2/ Phase transitions 3/ Nuclear structure 4/ Nuclear astrophysics 5/ applications and 6/ Fundamental symmetries;

  • New regulations for CERN staff : five year contracts and people can apply to any permanent contract inside CERN during these 5 years (after the end of their probabtion period) and several times.
  • Yorick attended the focus group on “code of conduct” at CERN.
  • ISOLDE workshop received 45 abstracts
  • Welcome back to Gry Tveten with the new baby.
