Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 11th May 2016.

Technical news:

ISOLDE:

  • NOTE: Until Thursday morning 12th May - A high activity is expected in the GLM area!
  • A power supply in the CDO section was replaced and working again. Recheck your values when using this section, if something seems strange.
  • GPS:
    • Is running rare earth beams for Medical and SSP collections.
    • The VISTAR screen mass information can be misleading, as it is now implemented, what is displayed is the last mass entered (but not sent) by the user. The actual mass value going through the machine is not shown. To be sure of what is being sent through the machine, check the values in the working set.
      • This will  be fixed/updated.
    • The GPS target heating dropped without reason. The line stayed on.
      • A heating restart made the target perform as before the drop.
      • No real reason found why, but this happened quite often last year. It was the first time this year.
    • Problems with moving the sample holder on the GLM related to software.
      • It has 24h service and can be fixed by a remote reset. Call the piquet service on 78840 if this happens.
      • When the holder is stuck this can also affect the deflectors.
    • A memory leak on the Magnet cycling software has been updated.
    • There will be a short run of 7Be before the weekend (to verify if the target which was mounted in the starting-up period is working ok). As a bonus, n-Tof may be able to make a sample for their experiment. The target change will be on Thursday.

  • HRS:
    • Finished the Ni-run.
    • Calcium Oxide target has been installed for IDS and is ready.

  • RILIS:
    • Is now running Dy on GPS.
    • Sunday the Blaze laser developed problems.
      • Most likely cause is that some optics have been burned.
      • The laser will be sent back to the manufacturer for repair as fast as possible.
      • This could affect the upcoming In-run (beginning of June).
    • For IS528, RILIS could reconstruct and use a different laser setup (after many tests) that was used 2 yrs. ago for Dy.
    • They will setup for Be before the weekend.
  • REX/HIE:
    • 9-gap amplifier test is on-going.
      • The controls seems to be broken from the water leak, not the amplifier.
    • The tunnel has been closed and the cryo-module is ready for cooling.
  • Target:
    • Production is on track.

Physics:

  • Medical collection for Risø DTU and PSI.
    • Due to the RILIS laser problems, out of 4 nights 2 nights were not so successful in terms of clean collection. Since the contaminations also add up to the activity, this reduces the amount of the correct isotope which can be sent under shipping restrictions.
      • There is a plan to do the chemical separation at ISOLDE before shipping in the future.
    • Risø DTU:
      • Collecting 140-Nd and 134-Cs.
      • Aim to follow it inside the body (mouse).
      • Of interest is to follow the delivery and if the daughter isotope still binds to the delivery molecule.
    • PSI:
      • Collecting 152-Tb and 149-Tb isotopes for alfa and positron emitters.
        • To be injected and studied in a minimum of 6 mice to obtain enough medical statistics.
  • SSP could do some rare Earth collections in between the medical collections.
  • IDS:
    • Setting up for the 16-N run.
    • Want to study beta- and alpha-delayed decay of 16-N.

Safety:

  • ISOLDE:
    • Access to ISOLDE controlled area - the 10 min login delay is back.
      • But it looks like some are not affected.

  • VISITS:
    • The ISOLDE floor has been painted with a blue guideline.

AOB:

  • Euroschool:
    • Maria will send around an email with information.
      • You are encouraged to participate.

The next ISOLDE PG meeting will be held on 18. May 2016 followed by a seminar by Angela Gargano, "Realistic shell-model calculations and exotic nuclei".
