Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 30th March 2016.
No comments to the minutes from the previous PG meeting:
Technical news:
There was no technical meeting this week. Only a short report on the ISOLDE status.
ISOLDE:
- On track for protons to return next week.
- On Monday there will be the first proton setup on HRS using the SEM grid.
- The used targets have been moved to ISOLDE as backup units for this year and for test beams.
- Leak-detector:
- It is back from repair and has been checked/tested to be working normally.
- Please read and follow the manual.
- The key for the leak-detector is located in the TRAKA box.
- GPS:
- Separator magnet control was updated to CERN software standard.
- This update has not been without problems.
- The magnet is not stable and suddenly resets.
- The operation feedback is not correctly displayed through the controls.
- This issue will try to be solved ASAP (this week).
- Separator magnet control was updated to CERN software standard.
- HRS:
- Is on good shape.
- Will be tested in bunching mode next week.
- The updated 1 ms recovery of the HT will be tested.
- RILIS:
- Lasers are in good shape and ready.
- They are investigating Bismuth ionization.
- Control room:
- Is now fully operational. The last controls have been installed.
- Beam gate timing will remain in the old control room, and may be moved next year.
- 508:
- The flow of the ventilation system (no AC cooling) was checked.
- AC cooling will be installed in the DAQ-room – waiting for budget.
- Maybe also install AC in the control room.
- Target:
- The target production is on track and within schedule.
Physics:
- Target for COLLAPS will be installed Friday and should be ready for stable beam Monday.
Safety:
- VISITS:
- The visits route in the Hall was inspected and some issues were found, especially with regard to cleaning up the route which visitors will follow.
- An action should be made to really clean/move/sort stuff at the experimental areas which is not needed.
- Reminder: Moving stuff out of ISOLDE now goes through the new buffer zone and can take 1-2 days. Everything, which is taken out of the hall must go through this zone, no exceptions.
AOB:
- Summer student project:
- Selections of the students have been made by the algorithm.
- Waiting for conformation on selected student for project.
- Please inform Vladimir for the student name and Jenny for the period the student will be at ISOLDE in order to organise a place for the student.
- ISOLDE newsletter:
- An extension on the deadline was given until Friday.
- For the first time there will be a cover page.
The next ISOLDE PG meeting will be held on 6 April2016 followed by a seminar of Chloe Malbrunot, "TBA: PIENU".
