Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 9th March 2016.

No comment to the minutes from the previous PG meeting:

Technical news:

There is still a lot of on-going shutdown work. Getting ready for protons to return and as systems are restarted various debugging is being done.

  • ISOLDE:
    • The Front-end have two new monitoring systems: one for detecting water leaks and one to measure the conductivity of the water.
    • HT supplies have been started.
    • Line heating is on.
    • The Magnets are cycling, power test (without beam).
    • RFQ on HRS to be tested.
    • Vacuum system is performing well since the upgrade of the controls.
    • The HRS double scanner still needs repair for optimal performance.
    • HRS: is in good shape and as ready as possible at current state.
    • GPS: Friday morning it was discovered that the HT electrical insulating foils were damaged for still unknown reasons (it was peeling off). The insulating foils were replaced on all three connectors.
  • HIE:
    • Cryo-module 2 has been installed and aligned. Now working on vacuum.
    • The new (and delayed) 9-gap RF power supply has arrived and is being installed.
      • The temporary power supply – located beside NICOLE – will stay as backup.
    • Cryo-module 1 (repaired) will arrive middle of April.
    • REX: Various cryo-pumps have been replaced.

  • Control room:
    • A few chairs have arrived. Next week the beam control is planned to be installed.
    • Control system updated – in case of a power cut, values (e.g. QP-array) should not reset.
    • The Operators have been trained for the updated control system.

  • RILIS:
    • Ready for beam from GPS.
    • Test of various schemes such as Bi, Eu and Te until Easter.
  • 508:
    • Please check if the water installation is done.
    • Kitchen is now operational.
      • The kitchen has no one responsible for the maintenance.
      • Please leave it clean and help keep it clean!
  • Target:
    • A new glass-material called “Sigradur®” (Glassy carbon) will be tested for Ta target containers.
    • Target production is on track and within schedule.

Physics:

  • 2016 Beam time schedule has been released and covers until the end of June.

Safety:

  • ISOLDE:
    • Please wear the mandatory helmet and safety shoes in the hall.
    • There was another safety spot check.
    • Currently there are three ISOLDE areas of responsibility covered by three different people.
      • It is discussed who will take responsibility for the ISOLDE visitors.
  • VISITS:
    • A new “Token” system has been introduced for CERN access. Each visitor gets a token/chip to be scanned for access.
      • How long time will this system take for a group of people to enter ISOLDE through the safety carrousel?
  • 275:
    • The work on the new roof has started and it will take 3 weeks.
  • 508:
    • In the chemical lab. the newly installed shower is leaking. The company behind will be contacted.
    • The eye washer is working.

AOB:

  • Summer student project:
    • 8 projects have been accepted and selected for member state students.
    • There will be 2 students from Thailand.
    • The student selection has started, deadline 20-MAR-2016 23:59.
  • The ISOLDE yield database has been updated.
  • 508:
    • Please test the phones in the different labs.

The next ISOLDE PG meeting will be held on Wednesday 16th March at 14:00.

There will be a presentation from the three Slovakian students on their work at ISOLDE.
