24 February 2016

Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 24th February 2016.

No comment to the minutes from the previous PG meeting:

Technical news:

There is still a lot of on-going shutdown work.

  • ISOLDE:
    • All sectors are again under vacuum.
      • After the upgrade all beam lines have full range gauges.
      • The vacuum control system has been modified/improved. The operators will need short training on the new underlying system. In principle, no changes for users.
    • Front-ends have been pumped and ready for first tests, after the shutdown, once the water is back next Monday.
    • The Faraday cage will be cleaned Tuesday.
  • Control room:
    • Has been moved to 508 and is increasingly operational. Minor things missing.
      • Proton request electronics and the beam gate controls still to be moved/interlinked
      • The TRAKA (key box) needs to be moved.
      • There will be installed door locks.
    • In the old control room in the Hall the following will remain:
      • Some local controls
      • VISTAR screens

  • HIE:
    • REX is starting up and debugging at the moment. Various timing issues which need to be resolved.
    • The 9-gap amplifier will arrive Monday/Tuesday.
      • The other temporary amplifier will stay as a backup for ca. 1 year.
    • Cryo-module 2 will arrive Tuesday
      • Keep outside space of ISOLDE and the SAS clear. It should be installed in the tunnel by Tuesday evening.
    • Cryo-module 1 (repaired) will arrive end of March.

  • RILIS:
    • Windows to be replaced on HRS and GPS
    • Getting ready for Bi-test
    • Eu scheme has been developed and will be tested.
  • 508:
    • The water pipes installation for the Laser labs is on halt at the moment.
      • The installation team was called for another task…
    • Kitchen is now fully operational with running water.
      • Shelves to be filled. Maybe each team could have their own shelves.

Safety:

  • ISOLDE:
    • There was a spot check Tuesday.
      • It was noted that people were not wearing safety shoes in the hall.
    • Please use the helmet when moving through or around in the hall.
    • For the moment please wear safety shoes – if you have them –  order them if you don’t, at least for local people.
    • There is still an ongoing discussion on the subject: constant helmet- wearing and safety shoes – as the ISOLDE hall is a beams area.
  • VISITS:
    • Again a busy week ahead with a VIP visit on Friday

Physics:

  • Target production is on schedule.
  • First beam will be 11th April 2016.
    • Chrome beams for ISOLTRAP
  • A draft of 2016 Beam time schedule has been made and is now being fine-tuned.
    • The schedule covers until June.

AOB:

  • The ISOLDE yield database needs a bit of update.
    • Volunteers are asked to contact Tanja from the target group.

A seminar was given by Ronald on his recent paper in Nature Physics.

The next ISOLDE PG meeting will likely be held on Wednesday 2nd March at 14:00.

There will be a seminar from Olivier Sorlin (GANIL).
