10 February 2016

Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 10th February 2016.

No comment to the minutes from the previous PG meeting:

Technical news:

There is still a lot of on-going shutdown work.

  • ISOLDE:
    • Upgrade to full range gauges.
      • Please pay attention and check if your beamline has missed the upgrade.
    • There has also been a VAT valve control upgrade (can no longer be forced open).
    • The main lights in the ISOLDE hall have had their maintenance. Now considerably brighter in the area close to the control room.
    • Beam-diagnostics. The electronics is being checked and once there is stable beam the hardware – scanners and Faraday cups – will be inspected.
    • RILIS windows will be replaced on HRS and GPS.
    • The TRAKA key box will be moved to the new control room and reorganised.
    • Fire extinguishers and alarms have been checked.
    • The target production is on schedule.

  • HIE:
    • Mounting of the Cryo-module is delayed. Transport from SM18 expected for 1 of March.
    • New 9-gap amplifier will arrive earliest 23 Feb.

  • 508:
    • The water pipes installation for the Laser labs is going well. It should soon be done.
    • A water counter meter will be installed to monitor water usage, as the circuit is open.
      • The water usage will then indicate if a closed system is needed.
    • The new Control room is being installed. The printer has already been moved.
      • The access to the control room will be locked (card reader) in the future.
      • IP phones to be installed and the old phone also which is always ON.

Physics:

  • Beam requests for low energy is being processed.
  • Beam request for HIE will soon be send out.
  • Preparation for Be-collection at the end of March has started.
  • INTC:
    • 19 proposals were received. 15 accepted, 4 to be resubmitted.
    • 300 requested shifts were reduced to 150 accepted shifts.

Safety:

  • ISOLDE:
    • Please use the helmet when moving through or around in the hall.
    • There is an ongoing discussion on the subject: constant helmet- wearing and safety shoes – as the ISOLDE hall is a beams area.
    • The experimental Hall had an electric safety inspection. The inspection report is attached to the minutes. .
      • Overall a positive report, but some issues have to be addressed.
  • 508:
    • Chemical-lab is now fully functional.
    • A waste disposal area for used chemicals (mostly from dye Lasers) is requested by users and is to be discussed.
  • 275: The on-going de-classification is soon to be finished.

AOB:

  • The new arrivals at ISOLDE were welcomed.
  • It was a busy week for visits at ISOLDE.
  • NOTE: Summer student submission deadline is Sunday February 14th.

The next ISOLDE PG meeting will likely be held on Wednesday 17th February at 14:00.

Looks like there will be no seminar.
