Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group meeting on October 21st, 2015
No comments to last week’s physics group meeting minutes.
Technical news
- Target area:
- Upgraded shielding and the new tracks for the Medicis robot are being installed
- General maintenance work and improvements on the target front ends scheduled for February
- RILIS windows to be replaced.
- A new fast beam gate will be installed for 2016 physics campaign.
- Preparations to adapt the front end for the new LIEBE (molten metal) to be tested at the end of the year.
- Target construction will be impeded for a few weeks due to personnel injury.
- General ISOLDE:
- Work replacing all vacuum gauges with full range models is well underway.
- Opening valves in “forced” unsafe mode will be restricted to very limited situations from now on.
- The new safety valves for the 4000 L LN2 tank outside ISOLDE have been ordered and will be delivered soon.

- HIE-ISOLDE:
- The jumper boxes installed on top of the tunnel are being repaired.
- Cryomodule 2 will be installed February 15th, one week ahead of schedule.
- The 9-gap RF amplifier will be installed and tested from 1st of March. The RF amplifier used in 2015 will be kept as backup.
- Cryomodule 1 will be retrofitted with the RF coupler improvements and installed first week of March.
Physics
- The coordinator calls for beam time requests to be delivered before INTC meeting Feb. 2nd. They will be accepted until the end of the week (week 5).
- HIE-ISOLDE workshop to be held Monday February 1st. More info at https://indico.cern.ch/event/462504
- INTC open session in the council room from 10 am to 6 pm Wednesday the 3rd of February. Program can be found at https://indico.cern.ch/event/intc52
Safety
- The coordinator reminds users safety practices that must be followed at the ISOLDE hall:
- Using the hand-foot monitor is mandatory when exiting the ISOLDE hall.
- Safety shoes are required in the ISOLDE work area and experiment area.
- Safety helmets are mandatory in the experimental hall. Possible derogation in certain circumstances are under study.
- Decontamination work of B275 is in progress. One office upstairs is now cleared; no contamination was found.
- The ventilation for the fume covers and the water for the eye wash of the chemical lab are finished.
- The group leader asks for comments and suggestions for both the RP and electrical safety courses.
Building 508
- The plumbing work to connect water for the kitchen sink is still to be done.
AOB
- The group leader calls for projects for summer students. Deadline is February 14th. Vladimir Manea will coordinate the initiatives this year.
- F. Wienholtz reminds the audience to contact him for ordering new Karlsruhe’s Chart of Nuclei.
- Due to the INTC meeting there will not be a PG meeting next week.
