Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 9th December 2015.

Comment to the minutes from the previous PG meeting: 

The commissioning of beam to XT02. Changed to “A success” from “A mixed success”.

Technical news:

Tuesday was the last ISOLDE technical meeting this year.

• ISOLDE:
  
  • 60 kV power supplies have problems (no 60 keV beams this year).
    • Testing 60 kV on both GPS and HRS, both power supplies seem to be faulty in the last stage to reach the 60 kV. Not clear if they were faulty or the last stage broke when trying to reach 60KV. The GPS power supply replaced by the spare one.
    • Both power supplies for GPS and HRS are working and the spare should be repaired.
  • Vacuum has stopped from after CO0 to the machine for the shut down.  
  • Water will be turned off 14^th Dec. and will be back 29^th Feb.
  • Refurbishing of scanners.
    • There are no spares for the electronic cards of the existing scanners.
    • The new electronic cards will be available from May on and need to be tested.
    • The new scanners will be tested on selected beam line locations, which need to be identified.
    • If scanners break down before May temporary solutions have to be found.
  • LA1: The threads for connecting experiments to the end of the beam line are getting very bad.
    • Picture of the threads will be send to Richard (Action Ivan).
  • IDS got a dead UPS-power supply in the morning of 9^th Dec. Asked if any electrical glitches may have been noticed in the hall. None noticed any correlated event.
  • Miniball will need to use the leak tester over a period of time.  
    • Noted that the leak tester needs service.
    • At the moment we have two Vaccum leak tester below the stairs they should be sent to Jose Ferreira for test or repair. Vladimir volunteers to take action and responsibility.
  • ISOLDE would benefit from a technician for maintenance tasks. The collaboration cannot effort to pay for a fulltime position. A solution has still not been found.
  • In case one needs ACCESS to CERN from 19^th Dec to 3^rd Jan.
    • One needs to REQUEST THE ACCESS.

• GPS:
  
  • Testing the new controls for GPS. There is a problem with the mass stabiliser and with the identification of the correct mass.
    • Compatibility problems between old and new system.
    • The mass does not stabilise or is recovered, since the power input is not stable.
    • RILIS asked to be able to have 24h to test the Cr laser ionization scheme. They will get the time for test.

• HRS:
  
  • The Magnet cycle is now 5-6 minutes with new software.

• REX:
  
  • Using a local ion-source and performing EBIS-emittance tests.
    • Working on a remote control of ISOLTRAP for the LHe level. Tested and working.
  • The Faraday Cups located on the REX is at present under no one’s responsibility.
    • This has to be solved.
• HIE:
  
  • The Cryo-module will be moved to the SAS the 4^th of January  and out to SM18 the 8^th Jan.
    • KEEP the ISOLDE-SAS empty by then.  

Safety:

• Controlled Fire alarm test at ISOLDE Thursday (10^th Dec.) morning 6:00-8:00

275:

• A clean up was made together with RP of contaminated pieces.
• People are called to help sort and throw out no longer needed stuff in order to make space.
  
  • MONDAY 14^th 10:00
• The Solid State room needs a good organisation and cleaning.
• Cardboard boxes are not allowed – use metal boxes instead.
  
  • Deadline is end of January.

Visits:

• 18^th Jan. The Vice President of Max Planch Institute will visit ISOLDE.

AOB:

• Reminder to hand your Thesis to the Library and Jenny, ASAP.
• Water in 508 kitchen has a low flow – ticket will be made.

There will be the last ISOLDE PG meeting of 2015 next Wednesday.
