26 August 2015

Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 26th August 2015.

There were no comments to the minutes from the previous PG meeting last week.

Technical news:

  • GPS:
    • GOOD NEWS: The GPS Front End is operational again. The movement of the extraction electrode has been fixed. Screws connected to the clutch had gotten loose and where tightened/replaced, as slipping was observed.
    • The extraction electrode had lost its synchronisation, but it has now been recalibrated.
      • Possible internal transmission fault was eliminated.
    • UCx -Ta target installed.

  • HRS:
    • ISOLTRAP takes beam, Po.
    • RC0 FC has been changed.
    • Could not cycle to required mass. Restarting the cfc-197-thrsmag solved the problem.
    • The broken turbo pump on RCO has been replaced.
    • RILIS changed ionization scheme after the Blaze laser (ionization step) was shown to produce stable TaO contamination at mass 197. When switching to ionization via a Rydberg state, this contamination decreased significantly (at first the target was thought to be bad).

  • ISOLDE:
    • Sunday morning issue with the InCa server. Users could not start or use any application (happened more than once). Restarting the server solved the issue. Software was updated, please report if similar happens again.
    • Issues with server buffer size. Will be solved 31st Aug.
      • It is possible that this intervention will turn off the target and line heating!

Safety:

  • During the last week heavy rain fall, water was observed on the floor between ISOLTRAP and IDS (from the roof).

AOB:

  • The ISOLDE kitchen now has a water fountain with hot and cold water.
  • Vacuum cleaner for the ISOLDE hall has arrived.

The next ISOLDE PG meeting has been announced and will be next Wednesday 2nd Sep. at 14:00. There will also be short presentations from ISOLDE summer students. Seminar by Pauline Aschier on Thursday at 14:00.
