05 August 2015

Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 5th August 2015.

There were no comments to the minutes from the previous PG meeting last week.

Technical news:

  • HRS:
    • IDS encountered many issues during their run.
      • RILIS has laser problems last Wednesday ionizing Cd (and Ga), which turned out to be due to slits blocking only one of the laser beams. Target performed well for surface ionized nuclei.
        • The slit did not response in software and gave wrong reading. It was solved by entering and disconnecting the slit that made it move out.
NOTE: Calibration number and position of slits are sometimes wrong.
          - Slit problems are now being followed by Richard.
    • Two RILIS lasers used to pump dye lasers broke meaning the end of Cd-run. They are investigating their repair or replacement.
    • The ISOLDE tape-station broke Thursday, and was repaired Tuesday (a fuse was replaced).
    • Turbo-pump on beam-line between ISOLTRAP and IDS broke during weekend.
      • Not a big issue, as this section can be pumped from the neighbouring sections. Keep the valves open or else vacuum interlock problems! It will be solved in the coming days.
    • Oscillating power supply towards IDS. Has been investigated.

  • GPS:
    • Ta-target is installed mostly for Medical isotopes but also SSP collections. ISOTRAP will also have the beam, mostly to characterize beam composition for the medical collections.
      • The backup laser scheme (based on Ti:Sa) worked well for Dy-beam (although this scheme was not sure to  be working).

  • ISOLDE:
    • Spare beam-diagnostic boxes have been repaired, ready to replace on the CC0 and RC0 beam-lines.
      • The “forgotten” diagnostic box on RC0 will be added back into the ISOLDE system, as it is important due to a vertical shift on the beam line at this section.
    • ISCOOL will again be investigated next week (tbc).
    • The ISOLDE leak-detector has been found and identified and it will be back from repair next week.
    • A new ISOLDE vacuum cleaner will be soon bought.
    • CLEANING of the extension hall, tomorrow at 10:00 (Thursday). Helmet and closed shoes are required.

Physics news:

  • Before the 2nd spare laser broke physics could be made by IDS. The neutron detection setup worked very well. Saw down to ~1 ion/sec.
  • Medical collection (during night) is going well and had to stop early (activity limit of transport) as beam was very good. SSP could therefore implant more samples than expected.

b508:

  • Euro-pallets needs to go back. In case exchange with a cheap non EU-pallet.
  • Remove the pallet cages outside the SSP labs.
  • Once per month all the stuff under the stair cage (R-201) will be shipped to long term storage.

b275:

  • We need to clear more space for AD setup. Action Monday afternoon
    • The space needed is on the left side between the entrance door and the old PAC lab.
    • Use the empty cupboards.

AOB:

  • Remember to properly mark your belongings for identification and when send to repair. Use the ISOLDE sticker.

The next ISOLDE PG meeting has not been announced, but will likely be next Wednesday 12 August at 14:00. There will also be short presentations from ISOLDE summer students.
