02 July 2015

Minutes from ISOLDE Physics Group meeting, 2nd July 2015.

There were no comments to the minutes from the previous PG meeting last week.

Technical news:

There were no technical meeting this week.

  • GPS:
    • Getting ready for negative-ion run (last time was 2006) for e.g. Cl, Br, ...
      • The beam tuning was not as hard as expected to LA1.
        • But target team sees at least 10 times lower yield than last time.
        • Possible reason: Cs-dispenser (to neutralise the beam) may be getting emptied (will install more next time).
      • Physics will start on Friday

  • HRS
    • Magnet cycling has been investigated and one of cards in Mag60 was exchanged (but the problem persisted).
      • But a software version rollback (to the version before technical stop 2 weeks ago) made the cycling work (for now… not checked with beam, yet).
    • The UCx target (made from the new UC batch) was investigated by the target group with positive results and good performance (protons directly on target).
    • Beam-diagnostics ready for exchange.
      • Both spares have been repaired and ready to replace broke ones
      • Replace the one giving ISCOOL vacuum and operational problems (tomorrow).
      • And one in CA0 sector (next week during target change on GPS).
        • Maybe also repair the one in CC0, before ISOLTRAP

  • Safety
    • VISITS:
      • Reminder: Access for any visitors (professional, but also family, friends, etc.) to ISOLDE have to be announced to Magda, Richard or Kara. It is then subject to approval in the Tuesday technical meeting. No visits are allowed during beam-line opening.
        • So it is better to show ISOLDE to private and non-professional visitors from the B.508 window.

  • B.508:
    • Still broken outside doors. Ongoing to be solved/repaired.
    • Ventilation is ok, but the A/C (at least in COLLAPS laser lab) seems to just keep cooling and do not stop at given temperature (will be checked by thermometers).
    • Water Fountain should be soon installed in the kitchen (due to no running water at the moment).

ISOLDE

  • Leak detector:
    • One is stationed at HIE-ISOLDE, not to be touched.
    • The one borrowed by vacuum team is back with them.
    • The one for ISOLDE will soon come back from repair. Then locked under the stairs with a key in the traka-box in the CR.

AOB:

  • Long-term storage:
    • Will accept only smaller things for storage. 1 pallet size around 1.2 meters.

The next ISOLDE PG meeting is to be announced. Followed by the seminar of Robert Mertzig, "Electron Beam Ion Source developments for ISOLDE”.
