Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group meeting on May 22nd, 2015

No comments to the minutes of the PG meeting held last week.

Technical news

GPS:

o Next target is UCX for solid state physics run: Mossbauer and emission channeling experiments.

HRS:

o Problems were found in two vacuum sectors right before and after the ISCOOL. Leak tests identified the leaks when the sectors’ faraday cups were in “out” positions.

o Two spare faraday cups replaced the leaking FCs. After the installation, one of them did not show any readout. This will be addressed once the FC can be repaired in the class A lab.

o Users found a decrease in the ISCOOL transmission from 70% to 35% during the run (maybe related to the vacuum leak).

o The intervention to replace CA0 and CC0 faraday cups is postponed to later this year, due to no more spares.

o The RFQ cooler received new He gas bottles last Wednesday. Holding time for the gas is presently only 5 days.

o The coordinator reminds that this year we have observed different HRS beam paths between stable beam and the beam of interest. Please keep it in mind during your experiments.

The ISOLDE He gas leak tester was found with an internal electrical short-circuit. Vacuum group lent a spare while ours is shipped to the company to be repaired (Vlamidir shipped, Thanks!).

The coordinator reminds the users to turn off the proton request when not needed.

The ventilation of the class A laboratories will be turned on next week. Production of UCX targets will resume after that.

The PS Booster Vistar of the proton current only updates now when the proton request is active. The target and magnet status boxes update continuously.

IS603 report

Goal: high precision measurement of the 0+-0+ strength in the beta-decay of 10C.

Beam was extracted as Carbon monoxide. The largest contaminant, about 50% of the beam intensity, was 13N oxide. CO beam was not broken up in ISCOOL.

Schedule

The second part of the schedule is being rearranged following users’ wishes. It will be released shortly.

Please find the weekly releases in http://isolde.web.cern.ch/experiments/schedules/weekly-schedule.

Safety

ISOLDE visits:

o All visitors to ISOLDE may be only professional (i.e. university students, teachers, VIPs), unlike before, when we could also accept e.g. high-school students

o At least one active dosimeter must be used per group present at the hall, as before

o No visitors are allowed in the hall if a beam line or setup part that was exposed to radioactive beam is open.

o Visits by family or friends are in principle not any allowed, but they will be considered on a one-by-one basis.

o All visits, even with 1 visitor must be announced to Kara and/or Magda, subject to approval and coordination with other ISOLDE activities.

o No unannounced visits are allowed any more.

The B508 door outside the fence is now permanently closed. Access must proceed from the tourniquet side.

B508

The landline telephones have been procured and received. They will be installed soon.

ISOLDE has obtained a derogation for 5 years for the requirement to go through a closed circuit for B508 cooling water.

The new projector for the b508 visitors’ room is now in a locked cabinet placed in that room. The key is accessible in the Traka box in the hall’s control room.

AOB

-The next meeting will take place at 14:00 Wednesday next week (27th May 2015) followed a seminar by Christian Smora on the "Overview of the recent high-precision mass measurements at TRIGA-TRAP" (https://indico.cern.ch/category/115/)
