Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group meeting on May 13th, 2015
No comments to the minutes of the PG meeting held last week.
Technical news
- The reason why the valves in front of experiments (e.g in LA1-LA2-COLLAPS) need to be forced open all the time, is apparently a software update that tries to read non-installed Piranni gauges. The software will be updated in the next technical stop in June.
- GPS:
- Target for gold isotopes measurement with RILIS+ISOLTRAP+Windmill. Power cut took the heating down, but target survived.
- After Monday REX-ISOLDE took radioactive beam.
- HRS:
- Users at IDS and LA1 report slightly different tuning needed with radioactive beam compared to stable beam. Keep it in mind when doing experiments.
- New Ca0 target for IS603, to produce carbon oxide for measurement of 10C beta decay. Line heating broke. Backup target installed, degassing after being shelved for a year.
- The separator area turbo pump still tripping in certain conditions. Last trip caused by power glitch. Under investigation.
- The power glitch made several HRS and GPS controll PCs to stall. They were rebooted manually successfully.
Schedule
- The second part of the schedule will be released for consultations this week. For the weekly releases see http://isolde.web.cern.ch/experiments/schedules/weekly-schedule for more info.
Safety
- A new cupboard will be available to store small contaminated beamline- and setup-parts. It is located at the entrance to the GPS separator. The key is stored in the key cabinet.
- The coordinator reminds users that before asking PS Booster operators to increase proton intensity all other optimizations (line/target heating, transmission, etc.) must be attempted.
- Users ask for the location of the ISOLDE hall hand held radiation monitors. Follow-up: they were being calibrated and are now back in the ISOLDE hall.
- Users ask for a disposal barrel for used laser dyes. A temporary solution used by RILIS is to use a disposal area located inside the PS Booster ring. The users are asked to contact the CERN chemical responsible to find a common solution.
- Two new forklifts have been ordered for B275 and the ISOLDE hall. One of the old ISOLDE fork lifts is back in the hall.
- Building 508 gate has a new lock and will now permanently closed. Users are asked to use the tourniquet.
IS598 report
- Goal: Measure charge radius of gold isotopes to establish transitions from spherical to deformed shapes.
- ISOLTRAP measured the masses of two isomeric states in 178Au.
AOB
-Stephan Malbrunot asks users to contact him if parts from the ISOLDE pumps are taken for other setups.
-Users ask to assign a person responsible of the He gas leak detector.
-The next meeting will take place at 14:00 Wednesday next week (20th May 2015) followed a seminar to be announced. Minutes taken by MMF
