Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group meeting on April 1st, 2015
No comments to the minutes of the PG meeting held last week.
Technical news
- Progress is being made to deliver beam from targets to experiment beamlines.
- Pressure reducers to be installed in the magnets were cancelled after calculations showed they were not necessary.
- An scheduled Power PLC upgrade made software vacuum controls stop working
- HRS:
- The magnet shows an intermittent ‘field error” crash. Under investigation.
- GPS:
- The GLM/GHM deflector plates still missed some steps when moved. The motors and clutches were removed and replaced with new redesigned parts. Requires recalibration.
- Target clamping and unclamping tests successful.
- Faraday cups FC490 and FC20 show 20% overshoot and undershoot currents when exposed to and removed from beam respectively. Being investigated.
- Beam scanner 120 seems to have several wires broken. To be repaired.
- New forklifts will be ordered for ISOLDE hall and B508.
- ISCOOL:
- Transmission on continuous mode was observed to steadily decline since first tests this year. Under investigation.
- RILIS:
- The optics damaged by the water flooding last week are being slowly replaced. The HRS window is now installed.
- Schedule:
- Protons for GPS starting April 9th, HRS the following Monday.
- The old Pb target for radioactive Hg production is showing ion source problems which could affect exotic isotopes yields. There is a new Pb target ready, though, that could be used.
- The security patrol to close doors and lock the front end and target area happened Wednesday.
- Separator course for users starts Tuesday April 7th.
- The work for the independent ventilation system of the MEDICIS building is being finished.
- The work to pass the B508 signal cables was finished Wednesday.
B508
- Users are now required to fill an application from their home institutes before they can operate the machines in the workshop. Contact Magda for details.
AOB
-Users request an update of the automatic tuning software. The current situation of the ISOLDE machine does not permit for tests.
-The next meeting will take place at 14:00 Wednesday next week (8st April 2015) followed by a seminar by Jose Bernabeu Alberola on "TIME REVERSAL FOR PEDESTRIANS" (https://indico.cern.ch/event/386138/).
