Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group meeting on February 26th, 2015

No comments to the minutes of the PG meeting held last week.

Technical news

  • The HIE-ISOLDE cryomodule will be installed at ISOLDE at the beginning of April.
    • The module will be lifted in above the linac tunnel using the overhead crane.
    • All boxes in the furthest part of the extension need to be moved before March 10th to leave space to rest the tunnel ceiling’s concrete blocks.
  • The pressurized air tubes for the entire hall are being replaced.
  • The old turbo pumps at the beamlines are being exchanged. Some of them will not be shipped until later this year, which will me mounted.
  • Separator magnet controls:
    • The new GPS controls have been installed and will be ready next week.
    • The new cycling algorithm for HRS is being tested now.
  • High Voltage platform:
    • The yearly cleaning of the HV platform room has been completed. The HV supplies were tested to 60 kV successfully.
    • The HRS HV supplies were found to recover more slowly, 20-25 ms (instead of 5-8 ms), when set to 60 kV with the neutron converter/MEDICIS targets (during November tests).
  • Targets:
    • The civil work of the target building ventilation system is on-going.
    • The first HRS commissioning target will be installed March 4th. It will be used to define a new alignment point for the frontend.
    • The clamping pistons have been fitted with rubber parts that should last for the entire year. New pistons made of radiation-hard parts are being improved and tested for next year.
    • GPS yearly maintenance and cleaning is scheduled for March 10th. Call for volunteers.
  •  RILIS:
    • The laser windows for GPS and HRS were changed Wednesday February 25th.
  • HIE-ISOLDE:
    • Test of the hardware already installed in the linac tunnel scheduled for March 3rd.
    • Extraction tests from EBIS planned for mid-next-week. The emittance meter will be installed after the first successful extraction.
  • ISCOOL:
    • The insulator pieces of the injection and extraction electrodes have been exchanged.
  • The group leader suggests finding a solution to make gas Navailable for venting experimental beamlines.

Safety

  • The coordinator reminds the group and users to avoid using the ISOLDE worksite for passage (and if necessary to use helmet when passing).
  • The open part of the trench by the NICOLE experiment is marked out by a barrier. In order to avoid further accidents it should not be tampered with and not removed.

B508

  • All first floor doors have been installed with locks for key SB23 (same as current B275 1st floor).
  • Ground floor doors need to be fitted with non-standard size locks. The new keys will be ordered.

Schedule

  • The ISOLDE separator course is now going to be held the second week of April, after Easter.
  • The first three weeks of March the stable beam will be used for technical teams, RILIS and targets.
  • The schedule to be released now will cover beam time until the end of June.

Conferences

  • EURORIB to be held in Hohenroda, Germany, on the 7-12 June 2015. Deadline for abstract submission has been extended to March 6th (https://www.gsi.de/eurorib-2015)

INTC-ISCC committees

AOB

-The director of the Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon, will visit the ISOLDE hall and solid state laboratories next Friday.

-The next meeting will take place at 14:00 Wednesday next week (4th March 2015) followed by a seminar by Dinko Atanasov (https://indico.cern.ch/event/377293/).
