Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group meeting on January 28th, 2015

No comments to the minutes of the PG meeting held last week.

Technical news

  • There was not technical meeting this week.

Safety

  • The electrical habilitation 3 day-course for ISOLDE locals took place last week.
    • The electrical certificates are being prepared by PH.
    • A new session will be held on 18-20th of February.
    • A course in March could be organized for people that might not be able to attend a course in February.
  • Everybody that didn’t need the ISOLDE RP course last year should  follow it this year, even if your dosimeter is still valid .
  • The next CERN first aid course will take place the 25th of February, it is advisable to sign for such a course if you have not yet done it..
  • The coordinator is trying to organise a course for training on the use of the workshop machines at B508 workshop.
  • The ISOLDE emergency evacuation exercise was conducted satisfactory on Tuesday morning.
    • The safety observers indicated that the current evacuation alarm at the hall is not very obvious. It is being investigated if it’s possible to replace it

B508

  • The electrical connections for the machines in the workshop are being finished this week.
    • After the electricity is finished a second company will install the machines on the floor.
    • Finally, the machines will be brought to conformity.
  • B508  entrance key will be most probably changed to SC40, the general ISOLDE offices key.
  • The Ethernet ports in all rooms are deactivated until you make a request to  move a PC into the particular port or define the port as for portable devices.
  • There is a phone now installed and working in the daq room (508 1-005).
  • A new share-point website will be created to schedule meetings in b508 meeting and visitor room.

B275

  • Six new cupboards have been ordered from recuperation to store material in the mezzanine.
    • The maximum weight allowed in the mezzanine is 350 kg/m2.
    • Intervention scheduled for Wednesday 9 am next week to organize material and clear space in the mezzanine’s shelves.
  • All the material in 275 to be sent to long term storage needs to be photographed and identified the owner (if possible).
  • The entrance key will be new and common between AD and ISOLDE. We will try to get an electronic system.

Miscellanea

  • The ISOLDE hall cleanup was finished on Monday morning.
  • The opted DG, Fabiola Gianotti, will visit the ISOLDE hall on Thursday morning.
  • The hall extension cleanup will wait until the Miniball support structure is installed (mid-march).

Summer students program

  • Laura Grob will collect the recommendations for summer students and the projects proposed by the ISOLDE group members.
  • CERN’s deadline to submit projects is February 15th. ISOLDE internal deadline is the week ending February 6th.
  • ISOLDE normally gets 7 students from member states, and another 6-7 from non-member states.

-PSA: The ISOLDE hall assembly point is located in the parking lot in front of the MEDICIS building.

-Request from Stephan Malbrunot for help recovering the second ISOLDE pumping station. Please check if you have taken it.

-The next meeting will take place at 14:00 Wednesday next week   (4th February 2015 )followed by a  seminar by John Sharpey Schafer, “Collective Structures in the Pairing Gap, High Resolution Two Proton Stripping and Connections to Double Beta-Decay” (https://indico.cern.ch/event/364563/).
