Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group meeting on February 17th, 2015

No comments to the minutes of the PG meeting held last week.

Technical news

  • ISCOOL:
    • Gas injection not to be installed yet. The parts are ready and ISCOOL is already closed.
    • Request for heavy stable beam for tests and systematics studies.
  • The vacuum tanks (balloons) collecting radioactive gasses from the exhaust are going to be emptied and ready next week.
  • The ISOLDE hall water system is not running yet.  Once the system is ready priority will be given to testing the HRS magnet.
  • A new hall probe was installed in the GPS magnet. HRS hall probes are unchanged.
  • REX:
    • The REX local ion source shows problems. The emittance meter will be installed.
  • RILIS:
    • A new valve will be installed, requiring compressed air.
    • The HRS laser window has been ordered and is being delivered. To be installed next Wednesday
  • There will be a meeting next Monday to define the amount of shielding needed in the ISOLDE water station.
  • Uranium oxide has been ordered by CERN in order to refill the stock. 10-20 Kg are to be delivered once the licensing is cleared.
  • ISOLDE cold (no beam) checkout has been scheduled for March 9th.

Safety

  • We will ask the new ISOLDE RP contact, Elody, to give a presentation for ISOLDE PH on the new “RP help”.
  • There is still no place agreed to dispose waste chemical dyes used in lasers. To be followed up with the safety responsible Jonathan Gulley.
  • Torben Molholt is responsible of the ISOLDE hall radioactive calibration sources as of Wednesday February 19th.

B508 & B275

  • Building 508:
    • The RP detectors for the solid state physics laboratory will be installed soon (Alexander Dorsival).
    • Heating, electricity and internet work. Phones have been ordered and will be delivered soon.We are studying the possibility to get the kitchen furnished at IKEA.
    • The closed water circuit is now finished. To be executed no later than mid-April.
    • The group leader asks for experiments to be showcased at the material science laboratory for the Portuguese government VIPs visit, March 6th.
    • First floor door locks will be mounted with SB23 cylinders.
  • Buidling 275:
    • Safety: Maria Borge is the new TSO. The yearly inspection will be done next week
    • Locks in ISOLDE rooms  will be changed to SC40. The main entrance will probably have an electronic card reader installed.

Conferences

INTC-ISCC committees

  • February 20th is the deadline for applying for beamtime in the April-October 2015 low-energy period.
  • The new ISOLDE physics coordinator was selected in the ISCC meeting:
    • A shortlist of 4 candidates was selected from 17 applicants.
    • Elisa Rapisarda was selected [MK1] as the next physics coordinator.

HIE-ISOLDE phycist coordination committee

  • HIE-ISOLDE will start physics campaign with 2 experimental beamlines. Beamline 1 will host MiniBall, beamline 2 will be used for movable experiments.
  • The third beamline and “u-bend” connection to the possible 0o spectrometer at the end of the current hall will be supported by CERN.
  • CERN now requires HIE-ISOLDE user setups to provide experiment drawings to be integrated with the HIE-ISOLDE main drawing. Please contact Integration Services (Stephane Maridor).

AOB

-The ISOLDE separator course will be held at the end of March.

-The next meeting will take place at 14:00 Thrusday next week (26th February 2015) followed by a seminar by Johanna Pitters on " Selective laser photodetachment in an RFQ ion beam cooler for AMS” (https://indico.cern.ch/event/372678/)
