Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting April 3rd, 2014

No comments to the minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting from March 27th, 2014.

TECHNICAL NEWS:

- Works connected to the water station located behind the control room are still on-going. The water should be available in the hall as of April 10th.

- The crane is still unavailable due to the works on the scaffolding.

- The works on the Nicole/Mistral platform are proceeding. A thick plastic foil was placed below the false floor in order to prevent the fall down of different object from the platform.

- The Nicole team is coming back for one or two weeks in May. They will need access to the setup. Users storing the equipment close to Nicole setup are asked to move it away.

- The trench has not been fully cleaned yet. To be followed up by Richard.

REX:

- REX-EBIS magnet has been aligned.

- The REX team asked for several shifts of stable beam to test different things before the radioactive beam is available.

RILIS:

- The dye preparation lab is still not ready yet. This delay might influence the off-line runs of the team. As an intermediate solution, the team will try to find another place to work with the chemicals.

- The additional pieces for the HRS laser window arrived and were checked by the RILIS team. Everything seems to fit well and the window should be installed next week.

- Tests with Ga on VADIS + RILIS combination were carried out in the off-line lab. This combination could be used for i.e. molecular break up in the ion source before the laser ionization or coupling laser to a molten target.

Safety:

- Maria and Magda are waiting for the quotation for the cable trays and power boxes.

- A draft of the RP form which will be required to get a dosimeter from July onwards was presented to the ISOLDE collaboration committee to get the first comments. This feedback will be given to the RP team preparing the form.

- From now on access to the α-sources will be limited. The sources will be locked with a separate key and only limited number of people will have a right to use it. Users working with those sources are asked to contact Magda in this matter.

Start-up schedule:

- Tim Giles is in charge of the facility start-up schedule from April till July 2014. The schedule is available in his public folder. The schedule has been divided into weeks, one slot per day. Maintenance was labelled in black and operation with ion beam in blue.

- There are no major delays in this schedule yet.

- April 14th - May 11th: the separator start-up. Any delays will cause the delay in delivery of the stable beam at ISOLDE.

- May 12th – May 25th: RFQ commissioning with stable beam and lasers.

- July 15th: HRS start-up (test of the ISOLDE tape station, then CRIS).

- July 20th: physics schedule start on GPS (Ta target).

- Piquet (operator on call) will be available from mid-June 2014 and during working hours from April 14th.

- According to the injector schedule the machine development (MD) will happen every 2nd Wednesday in 2014 (protons might not be available then).

ISOLDE General:

- Works on the new bld. 508 are progressing. The internal walls will be put in place soon. Maria is still waiting for the quotation on the cooling and ventilation.

- New impact factor for the visits at ISOLDE: 44709.

- ISOLDE has updated the list of the guides.

AOB:

- The meeting was followed by the seminar of Magdalena Zielinska on “Coulomb excitation and nuclear deformation” http://indico.cern.ch/event/309122/.

- Next PG meeting will take unusually on Wednesday April 9th at 4pm and it will be followed by a seminar of Igor Garcia Irastorza from Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain, on “From CAST to IAXO: towards a new generation axion helioscope” http://indico.cern.ch/event/309543/ .
