Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting April 16, 2014

No comments to the minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting from April 3rd, 2014.

TECHNICAL NEWS:

- Black powder-like dust is distributing around the ISOLDE hall. Most likely this is connected to the open windows towards the new bld. 508.

- If possible, one more cleaning will be organized before the facility start-up.

- There are a few small delays in the micro-schedule of the facility start-up prepared by Tim. However, this should not cause any delays in the physics schedule prepared by Magda.

- Some problems were reported with the PS booster which might cause a week of delay in PSB planning, but should not influence the ISOLDE proton start-up.

- Problems with debugging of the control system software due to regular patches were reported by Eleftherios. This seems to be a common problem for different facilities at CERN.

- The new ISOLDE water station is again operational. However, a few leaks have been reported. They are supposed to be fixed soon.

Bld. 508:

- The works on the new bld. are proceeding.

- A new version of the cooling and ventilations system was presented by the company. The technical specifications on this new system will be available soon.

- The installation of the new cooling and ventilation system will take up to 10 weeks. Magda is looking into possible optimization of this schedule.

- Magda has sent around the latest version of the electricity network for the new bld. If there are no major changes requested by the users, the plan will be finalized soon.

- One major patch panel, connected directly to ISOLDE hall, will be placed in the DAQ room of the new bld. and it will connect the patch panels in the other DAQ rooms with ISOLDE. As commonly agreed, there will be no SHV connections on the new panels.

- The access to the upper floor of the new bld. will be controlled by card readers (and b508 access request in EDH). The bottom floor, similarly to the experimental hall, will be classified as a simple controlled area.

Safety:

- The new RP form replacing the medical certificate for ISOLDE users is currently being finalized.

- From July on access to the experimental hall will be recorded with passive dosimeters, and not the CERN cards anymore.

- The new RP course tailor-made for ISOLDE is in preparation.

ISOLDE General:

- Magda is currently working on the first part of the schedule. It should be released by the end of the next week.

- All supervisors of the summer student projects are asked to contact their students regarding the new RP form necessary for obtaining dosimeters and access to the hall.

AOB:

- ISOLDE Nuclear Reaction and Nuclear Structure Course is taking place on April 22 – 25. Therefore, there will be no PG meeting next week.

- Maria has suggested a change in the structure of the PG meeting, putting more stress on physics related topics and work carried out by the local groups and only briefly describing the technical details of interest for the users reported on technical meeting.
