Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting March 6, 2014
No comments to the minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting from January 27th, 2014.
TECHNICAL NEWS:
- RFQ is back in the hall.
– it will stay for a moment in the IDS area.
- Ramses (RP system) cabling for GPS and HRS areas has started.
- There will be the crane periodic inspection (i.e. tests with lifting a concrete block) this Thursday. It should take only a few hours.
- The concrete door for the linac tunnel will be put in place this week.
- The concrete blocks making the supports of HEBT dipole magnets have been moved to the hall. They will be put in place next week.
- The marking of holes to be drilled in the floor for the HEBT support structures will be also done next week. The drilling will follow a week after.
- Electricity racks in the old entrance will be disconnected for a moment, to allow the connection of the new transformer. Erwin will send around an email, so that everybody who might be using power from these boxes (e.g. REX) is informed.
- The works on the water station behind the control room are delayed – instead of mid-March, they should be finished around April 10th. This should have only a week impact on the ISOLDE start-up planned for April.
- Part of the trench close to ASPIC was cleaned on Wednesday, March 5th. The rest of the trench will be cleaned around March 20th, after the SPC visit on March 18th. Richard organizes the cleaning team and him or Erwin will get the transport team to lift the metal elements covering the trench.
- The vacuum team is presently working on the vacuum software, so it won’t be accessible for a few weeks.
- Eleftherios reported that about 50% of the ISOLDE controls software works, 15% doesn’t and the rest remains to be checked.
REX:
- Software tests for REX-trap are ongoing.
Bld. 508:
- Work on the metallic structure is ongoing. The floor of the 1st floor is being put in place.
- The electrical scheme has been finalized and the Internet connections were modified to cut the cost. The access to the RP-controlled area and to the 1st floor has been defined. Magda is waiting for user input concerning signal cables from ISOLDE.
ISOLDE start-up schedule:
- Richard will present the plans for ISOLDE start-up and required support groups at the upcoming Facility Injector meeting.
- ISCOOL should be put back in its position next week. Tests with stable beam are foreseen for the beginning of May.
- RILIS plans offline tests of several ionization tests in June.
- When the protons come, tests of target HV with a neutron converter target are planned (this is to see how the air ionization due to radioactivity influences the HV recovery time).
Safety:
- The PAD/MAD system is not fully functional, so tests will continue.
ISOLDE General:
- New cable trays will be installed in the hall most likely still before the facility start-up. Julien Thiboud and Alexandre Dorsival in collaboration with Rene Necca are working on the cost estimation.
AOB:
- There is still no news about the summer students’ selection.
- Monika is collecting the names of people who would like to participate in the emergency guides training for ISOLDE. The list will be closed on Friday, March 14th.
- DREB2014 – Direct Reactions with Exotic Beams workshop will be held from June 30th – July 4th in Darmstadt, Germany https://indico.gsi.de/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=2347.
- The 5th EURISOL Topical Meeting 2014 “Innovative Instrumentation for EURISOL” will be held on July 15th – 17th at the University of York, York, UK http://eurisol5.iopconfs.org/home.
- The Fifteenth International Symposium on Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics (CGS15) will be held on August 25th – 29th in Dresden, Germany http://www.nupecc.org/index.php?display=events.
- The meeting was followed by a seminar of Jose Briz on “Shape study of the N=Z and waiting-point nucleus 72Kr via beta decay”. - Next PG meeting will take place at the usual place and time (March 13th). There will be no seminar.
