Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting March 27, 2014
No comments to the minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting from March 20th, 2014.
TECHNICAL NEWS:
- Separation of 20°C and 27°C water systems has been done. Acceptance test and commissioning are ongoing.
- The overhead crane is currently unavailable due to the works on the scaffolding mounted on the Saleve side of the hall. If access to the crane is requested, please contact Erwin Siesling (164585).
- Due to the construction works on the Mistral/Nicole platform, a hammer fell down and nearly hit a person working below (who was wearing a helmet). After this accident it was decided that a net or plastic sheet will be placed directly below the platform to avoid similar accidents.
- The following scanners have not been calibrated: RA0.SC80, RB0.SC80, CD0.SC80 and RC4.SC80, because they either belong to the experiments or the beam lines are under vacuum. All Faraday cups are working, except for the ones which don’t show the “out” position. RC4 and RC6 lines have been cabled back to the original position. A mix up between RC8 cables/CC0.SC10 and “ECRIS” has been found and it has to be sorted out. Due to contaminated oil in the retention tanks of the HRS primary pumps, the calibration of BI in that zone was not possible.
- Richard has presented the schedule of ISOLDE start-up on the FOM meeting. An intervention on the controls will happen as from April 22nd, therefore, HT cannot be started before April 24th.
- The works connected to the construction of the VITO line are going according to the schedule.
- There will be no longer controls piquet in the future. The BE-OP team (including ISOLDE machine operators) will have to follow the course on first interventions for controls problems.
Target area:
- Works connected to the installation of the new target shelves and their cables are ongoing. The GPS side is almost finished. The HRS side was supposed to be started start yesterday.
- The problem with the ventilation system has been solved.
- The repair of the GPS extraction electrode has started last Friday. The problem which caused GPS stop in 2012 was solved, but a small internal part got loose during the intervention. This small problem will be addressed in the coming days.
- Installation of the radiation monitors is nearly completed. The monitors for GPS will be installed after moving the shielding. This most likely will be coordinated with the works connected to the installation of the new robots.
- The PAD/MAD system is now operational.
REX:
- The holding time of the REXEBIS cryostat is about 14 days after the repair.
- Work on the magnetic field alignment of the REXEBIS is ongoing.
RILIS:
- The laser tables are now installed in bld. 26.
- The extension tube for the HRS magnet window has arrived.
- Due to potentially contaminated oil in the vacuum pump retention tank, the work in the HRS zone is limited. To be followed up by the vacuum group.
- The results of the test on the laser ionization in a VADIS source are very promising.
Vacuum in the hall:
- We were reminded that vacuum support for ISOLDE experiments is not in the mandate of TE/VSC and any assistance by Giovanna, Claude, Sebastien, and others is on their good-will basis.
- Jose Antonio Somoza, also from TE/VSC, is coordinating the vacuum works at ISOLDE and if users need help, they should contact him, because he has the best overview if the TE/VSC team has any time to help us.
- An industrial support providing (paid) vacuum standard services exists at CERN (company 4030). Please contact Franck Monnet if such service is requested.
Safety:
- As of July 2014 access to the ISOLDE hall will be with personal dosimeters.
Bld. 508:
- Works connected to the construction of the new bld. are ongoing.
- Despite of the long meeting yesterday, the cooling and ventilation systems have not been finalized yet.
- The new bld. will not be delivered before the end of June 2014 due to delays in cooling and ventilation which prevent the electrical network from being finalized.
ISOLDE General:
- Magda is working on the first part of the beam time schedule.
AOB:
- The meeting was followed by the “coffee with nuclei” discussion with Alfredo Poves.
- Next meeting will take place at the usual place and time and it will be followed by the seminar of Dr. Magdalena Zielinska on “Coulomb excitation and nuclear deformation” http://indico.cern.ch/event/309122/.
