Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting March 13, 2014

No comments to the minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting from March 6th, 2014.

TECHNICAL NEWS:

- The drilling on the Saleve side of the hall will continue in order to fix the tubes for the 20 degree cooling water from bld. 199 to HIE-ISOLDE.

- The scaffolding installed close to EBIS has been partly removed because it was disturbing the crane movement.

- After placing the concrete blocks for the linac’s door the rails sank down preventing the door movement. The problem should be solved still during this week.

- The new cable trays for HIE-ISOLDE transformers have been already installed in the false floor of the Nicole/Mistral platform.

- The metal templates for marking and drilling of the holes for the HEBT line are still not ready. In order to avoid delays it was decided that the marking and drilling will be done at the same time.

- New cable trays for the HEBT line will be soon installed on the Saleve side of the hall up to the trench.

- The announced power-cut in the cards located in the old SAS caused problems with the Internet connection in the hall. This was fixed on Tuesday afternoon.

- Works connected to the cooling and ventilation in blds 198 and 199 are about to be finished.

- A vacuum leak in the CA0 beam line was reported. Most likely the leak was caused by the works connected to the tape station.

- Vacuum on the beam lines seems to be in a strange state. The vacuum group should follow up on this situation.

- ISCOOL is still located under the Nicole platform.

- The annual inspection of all cranes in the hall took place last week. Only one of the small cranes did not pass the test with a positive outcome.

- The final test with the ISOLDE tape station will be done when the radioactive beam is available. For the moment only positioning can be checked.

REX:

- Leak of the pressurized air was reported on REX. This was caused most likely by the blue compressed-air tubes, which are too old and should be exchanged soon.

- REX is missing one patch panel, which was removed for the RILIS cabin extension. To be reinstalled soon.

- The EBIS cryostat was closed and cooled down. Currently it is being pumped down.

RILIS:

- The RILIS team is installing the radiation monitor in the RILIS cabin.

- The laser/door interlock is nearly finished.

- From next week on the team will be doing tests of laser ionization in the VADIS source at the off-line separator.

- The machine protection system is now finished and it will be tested before being installed.

- The new powerful Blaze laser has been ordered. The delivery is expected before the start-up of the facility.

Target area:

- Works connected to the cooling and ventilation in the target area are on-going.

ISOLDE General:

- ISOLDE was granted 7 member-state summer students. Summer student selection system is now available. All project supervisors are asked to make the students prioritization before midnight of March 23rd.

- The SPC (Scientific Policy Committee) visit of the ISOLDE hall will take place on Tuesday, March 18th. The visit will be divided into two groups: 14.10 – 14.40 and 14.50 – 15.20.

AOB:

- The meeting was followed by a coffee discussion with Alfredo Poves on N=40 nuclei. - Next PG meeting will take place at the usual place and time (March 20th). There will be no seminar.
