Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting February 13, 2014

No comments to the minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting from January 30th, 2014.

TECHNICAL NEWS:

- The 9th gap HV amplifier was finally removed from the extension hall and sent to Germany for upgrade.

- The cables are being pulled on the Mistral platform.

- The drilling for the marking/reference points in the extension hall will start on March 3rd.

- The second cleaning of the hall will be done in week 9 (24th Feb – 2nd Mar).

- The RFQ cooler will be put back in place immediately after the cleaning.

- The transformers for GPS and HRS will be installed in week 14 (31st Mar – 6th Apr)

Target area:

- The off-line separator is ready.

- The control system of the off-line separator is according to the CERN standards but it still needs to be de-bugged.

RILIS:

- The electricity in the extension of the RILIS cabin is currently being set up.

- The laser group is still working on the upgrade of the HRS launch window.

REX:

- New REX-trap RF system has been checked with 3 different frequencies.

- The REX-EBIS cryostat problem is still under investigation.

Safety:

- Ana-Paula reported on the meeting with Marc Tavlet, BE DSO. The goal of the meeting was dividing the experimental hall into two zones: the low energy part where the safety shoes and helmets (PPE) should not be obligatory and the high-energy part where the PPE would be required. It was proposed that the extension hall would be fenced around with no access without permission. A few people from ISOLDE would be allowed to cross the extension hall in order to handle the LN2 dewars and coordinate the equipment movement through the extension hall. In this condition, access through the SAS will not longer be possible. A document to be approved by safety is under preparation.

- The evacuations plan for fire for 2014/2015 will be done either right after the protons are over for 2014 or in January 2015.

- The radiation monitoring system is being currently installed in the hall.

AOB:

- The summer student projects should be submitted no later than on Sunday, February 16th (CERN deadline). ISOLDE in-house team prepared 12 projects (including two projects from EN: yield’s data base and the realignment of the beam lines at ISOLDE).

- The ISOLDE Nuclear Reaction and Nuclear Structure course will take place 22nd – 25th April 2014. People interested in participating it should register as soon as possible on https://indico.cern.ch/event/298890/.

- The second TEDxCERN in 2014 will be focused on the role of science in charting a better future. The dates of the meeting haven’t been set yet, however, the committee is searching for speakers. Everyone is welcome to vote via http://tedxcern.web.cern.ch/nominate-speaker#overlay-context=speakers.

- The schedule of ISOLDE seminars can be found on http://indico.cern.ch/category/115/.

- The meeting was followed by a seminar of Oliver Forstner on “Accelerator Mass Spectrometry on VERN – Current status and new developments” http://indico.cern.ch/event/299576/.

- Next PG meeting will take place at the usual place and time (Feb 21st), and it will be followed by a discussion with Alfredo Poves on 54Ca.
