Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting January 15, 2014

No comments to the minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting from January 9, 2014.

TECHNICAL NEWS:

- The technical meetings were re-established to take place every week.

- Eleftherios Fadakis, the new ISOLDE machine supervisor, reported on the new control system, which is planned to be implemented at ISOLDE before the facility start up. In case the new system is not ready, the old system will have to be run without any maintenance.

- Construction works (drilling holes, finishing the walls for the SC Linac shielding and movement of the concrete blocks) will take place in week 3.

- Cleaning of the extension hall was scheduled for the beginning of March.

- Retracing of the beam lines in the extension hall will happen on Monday, January 20th.

- A new transformer is currently stored at the entrance of the new SAS.

- A few connection pieces are still missing for the water station re-installed in the hall.

- In week 4 the company working for HIE-ISOLDE will follow up on the possible sources of the water leak, which occurred at ISOLDE during the Christmas break.

- A few cable traces are still missing in the low energy part of the hall.

- Richard presented the schedule of the ISOLDE restart this year. The most important dates:

a) January – the power cables will be put in place by the end of the month. This will take about two weeks. The network will be re-established right after.

b) March – delivery of the Ramses system to ISOLDE.

c) 17 March – cooling water back in the hall.

d) 14 April - closing vacuum at the facility.

Target area:

- Rail mismatch was found for the new robots being installed this month. To be followed by the technical group.

- Modification of doors actuators from electric to pneumatic.

- The FC on HRS will be modified to accommodate the new MEDICIS target.

- From this year on the targets will be handled and exchanged by EN-STI group. The ISOLDE operators will no longer take care of that. Maria addressed a possible loss of flexibility that might affect the scientific program at ISOLDE.

- The RFQ cooler will be reinstalled at the end of February. It will be tested for two weeks with the stable beam in April.

RILIS:

- The extension of the RILIS room in the hall has been finished.

- Two optical tables, currently stored in the extension hall, will be moved to the laser off-line laboratory.

- A LabVIEW replica of the LIST control system developed in Mainz will be done at CERN.

- Tests with high-power lasers on the new HRS window will take place before April 14th. The tests carried out in December 2013 were inconclusive and had to be repeated.

Bld. 508:

- A meeting about the internet network for the new bld. will took place on Wednesday, January 9th.

Safety:

- A common big LN2 dewar for ISOLDE was readdressed during the technical meeting. To be followed up by Magda and Ana-Paula Bernardes.

- Magda and Alexander Dorsival discussed the best positions for the new radiation monitors in the hall. They should be placed preferably along the beam lines and close to the experimental areas.

- As previously addressed, ISOLDE should have one power box per beam line. The missing power boxes will be ordered at the end of January.

GENERAL ISOLDE:

- The second cleaning of the experimental hall will take place either in the last week of February or the first week of March.

- SPC visit of the experimental hall will be held on March 18th. The local groups are asked to uncover their experimental setups before that day.

- The new computers for the ISOLDE control room have arrived.

- The HRS and GPS e-logbooks are again available on-line, but for the moment they can be only accessed from within CERN.

- Users using their own computers in the control room are advised to move them away for the time of installation of the new Windows machines.

AOB:

- Welcome to Jose Antonio Briz Monago from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid who joined ISOLDE for 3 months to work on the tape station and the detectors for the new tape station (target group).

- The deadline for submitting the INTC documents is today, January 15th.

- Recommendations of students applying for the summer student program at CERN should be sent to Magda. We will soon ask for project descriptions from the local team.

- The meeting was followed by a seminar of Prof. Artur Carbonari from Sao Paulo, Brasil.

- Next PG meeting will take place the next week at the usual time and location. It will be followed by a seminar of Prof. Steven Karataglidis on “Exploring exotic nuclei with the MCAS framework” http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=293545.
