TECHNICAL NEWS:
- Works in hall: a new retracing of the high energy beam transfer lines will be done in the following weeks;
- There is new dust on top of the equipment: this was connected to the excavation of the rails to slide the door to access the new tunnel of the LINAC and to the cut of the wooden panels used for the floor of the mezzanine; the workers have not followed advice from our users to use a vacuum cleaner
– Magda follows up the issue with Richard;
- Extra dust is expected from the works on the roof of the hall extension, connected to the ventilation system;
- The floor of the hall extension will be perforated in several points to install the golden markers used for the alignment (see attached plan). Users are requested to check if the position of the markers interferes with the experimental setups;
- Works on the platform are concluded, cabling is now going on;
- Target area: parts of the services (both mechanical and electrical) have been taken out. A new access door and eye scan are expected to be installed in December immediately after the installation of the robots;
- REX-EBIS and -TRAP: repairs are going on. The new RF generator for the TRAP has arrived and is under test;
- RILIS platform: an upgrade of the cooling and ventilation system is required to sustain the larger volume of the future RILIS cabin;
- RILIS off-line lab.: the Ba ionization scheme was developed; several schemes were tested;
- New Bldg.508: the concrete floor has finally started;
GENERAL ISOLDE:
- Safety:
- Radiographic control on 20th November from 01:00 to 05:00 a.m.;
- the soil dug out on the road side for the new MEDICIS project was found richer in 40K than the normal natural background;
- the RP group will place new radioactivity monitors with light alarms along the beam lines;
- “Safety at HIE-ISOLDE” was recently reviewed: some changes must be done connected to the cryogenics installation of the LINAC;
- Discussions are ongoing whether ISOLDE will become a controlled area and if helmets have to be worn when LS1 finished and later HIE-ISOLDE starts;
- Tim G. is working on the design of a compact tape station for yields measurements. For the detector part, Tim welcomes support from ISOLDE physicists;
- The new electrical installations for low-energy experiments to replace or to be added to the existing ones in the ISOLDE hall are under discussion.
OTHERS:
- From January on a young Post-Doc, Jose Antonio Briz Monago, will spend three months at ISOLDE;
- Some budget is available on the ISOLDE group account to be used by the end of the year. Please make your list of wishes to be discussed with Magda and Maria. Things for common use will have priority;
- Finnish student programme: students from Finland might be available to work for three months on a project at ISOLDE starting from May. If anyone is interest please prepare a proposal of a project;
- A course on “Introduction to Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)" is offered by CERN for free. Next date is 04th December: http://hr-training.web.cern.ch/hr-training/tech/default.asp
- We were very happy to hear that Kieran’s son, Frej William Nils, was born on Wednesday 13th November;
- The new coffee corner (room 26/1-033) in front of the ISOLDE visitor’s room was inaugurated. Many thanks to Magda and Jan who supplied the first chocolate and coffee; - No seminar after the meeting. Next week, Jan Kurcewicz will give a short report on the course “Nucleonica: web driven nuclear science” he attended recently: https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=286438
