Minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting September 12, 2013

No comments to the minutes from the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting from August 28, 2013.

TECHNICAL NEWS:

- Cutting holes at the mezzanine from the extension hall should be finished by the end of this week.

- The work on the floor of the mezzanine will start only at the beginning of October, and not as planned previously on September 23, 2013.

- The concrete blocks for the linac shielding have arrived to the hall extension. Next week the present roof of the linac shielding will be taken away. The new blocks will be put in place and the roof will be constructed later. The work should be finished within 2 weeks.

- Works going on bld. 508 caused vibrations which were detectable in the hall (reported by the ISOLTRAP team). The building company was asked to stop cutting the metal/concrete leftovers from the previous bld. 507. As reported by Eliseo, this part of the former bld. floor (ca. 20cm) can be left as it is and the new concrete floor will be constructed next to it and above it.

REX and RILIS:

- EBIS was partly dismounted. Various tests towards HIE-ISOLDE planned by Didier were postponed till next year.

- REXTRAP was opened in order to take a look at one of the Faraday cups. It was found that the suspected FC is damaging the insulators of REXTRAP while moving in or out. The discussion on how to proceed is now on-going.

- There will be no cooling water in the hall till mid-February 2014.

- The exact dates of the construction of the extension of the RILIS hut are still not known.

- Currently the RILIS team is working on the laser beam to the GPS system and HRS magnet window upgrade.

- RILIS is about to order new laser tables. Common offers are encouraged.

Safety:

- Didier Voulot is following up on the safety recommendations from the safety visit in the hall. Some of the local persons in charge have been contacted in this matter.

- Test on switching the electricity between French EDF and Swiss networks is foreseen on Thursday, September 12. It should be transparent for all the CERN’s installations.

Hall Cleanup:

- Cleaning of the hall will start on Thursday, September 19. Maria and Magda have met the cleaning team and discussed the cleaning details. Three people will be cleaning the hall between 830 and 1530 every day, with 30 min of lunch break, for the next 3-4 weeks. The physicist “on shift” on a given day should meet with the team in the hall at 830 and agree on the plan of the day.

- Supervision of the cleaning team will be organized locally. A webpage was set up, where everyone can sign up for a given day, together with the email address and the phone number. The schedule will be organized a few days in advance, based on the progress of the cleaning works in the hall. The cleaning team will start from the NICOLE setup, and then they will move to the WITCH and REX platforms, followed by the ASPIC area.

- Different areas in the hall will be labeled with the green (to be cleaned) and red (no access) tapes.

- The cleaning team will use a special dust-attracting chiffon, the ISOLDE vacuum cleaners and the water mops for the floor at the end.

- Due to the fact that there still will be a lot of works going on in the hall, the upcoming cleaning is supposed to be intermediate. The final cleaning of the hall, if necessary, will be organized in February or March 2014.

GENERAL ISOLDE:

- Welcome to the new member of the ISOTRAP team, Dmitry Kisler, who will join the ISOLDE group for the next three years.

- Power and electric sockets, and ventilation requirements for the bld. 508 should be finalized asap. Local persons in charge are asked to inform Magda about the number of the plugs required in each of the new laboratories.

- The works on the bld. 508 will restart next week. The concrete floor is planned to be done in October.

- The deadline for the INTC proposals in on September 25, 2013.

AOB:

- The meeting was followed by a seminar of Yolanda Prezado on “New approached in radiotherapy” http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=270895.

- Next PG meeting will take place at the usual place and time and it will be followed by the seminar of Dr. Deyan Yordanov.
