No Comments to the minutes of the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting of the 24.01.2013;

TECHNICAL NEWS:

- GPS

o No news

- HRS

o No news

- REX

o Running with stable beams from EBIS for test of the HIE-ISOLDE beam diagnostic devices: TOF and energy measurements with Silicon detectors; the new thin FCs have now larger repellers and thanks to that the readout does not depend any more on the applied repeller voltage;

o Frederick is testing the EBIS, and Jan and Elisa, with the help of Didier, are measuring the background in the Mistral area due to the LINAC.

- RILIS

o Equipment being moved to offline labs in bldg. 3

- ISCOOL

o Dismantled and moved to bldg. 279. It will be back in the hall in 2014

Class A labs in the ground floor of bldg. 3 are being declassified and they will soon serve for many offline tests.

SAFETY

  • Reminder of Alexander Dorsival not to mix up contaminated metallic things and flammable liquids;
  • Dosimeter: the procedure to get them is changed (waiting for official RP news). The users can now follow the Radioprotection course online, it takes 20 min. It has still to be clarified if the medical certificate is needed or not;

AOB:

  • ISCC meeting took place last week. Erwin presented an updated schedule of the works in the hall. Please find in the attachment to these minutes, his presentation. A brief summary:

o From 15th February till summer: no Cooling water;

o No power cuts foreseen, if any we will be informed;

o From 15th February: large activity along REX-line;

o From 15th February to May 2013: Cooling and Ventilation works. Expect some movement, noise and dust. The access to the crane might be restricted;

o March to fall 2013: civil engineering. It includes: excavate trench along REX, removal of the LINAC tunnel;

o From April till Autumn: Platform above Mistral will be changed, area underneath has to be cleaned: small objects call fall down during the works;

  •

Tuesday, February 12.2.2013 at 10am in the ISOLDE Seminar room, an informative presentation by Erwin will be given to the ISOLDE PGM on the status of the works in the hall and the present planning.

  •
  • Large Liquid Nitrogen tank at ISOLDE: Magda is following it up. Two tanks around 4000l have been identified in CERN, one is in good shape and we can get it for free. The cryogenics safety officer does not see any constraints in installing it outside ISOLDE. We’ll try to install it at the beginning of 2014.
  • Summer Students: Maria thanks everybody who has presented a project. Priority was assigned to the following four projects:

o beta-NMR

o CRIS

o Permanent Decay Station

o Either Witch or Solid State Physics (COLLAPS was identified after the meeting)

Deadline to upload the project: 14th February. The reference number is needed to send the priority list to M. Doser. Please upload it as soon as possible

  • Conferences: Maria announced the “X Latin American Symposium on Nuclear Physics and Applications”held in Uruguay, December 1-6, 2013;
  • Visits in Isolde: Jan volunteered to take over from Magda, as a contact person for them. Next visits:

o 18th-22nd February, CERN personnel visit: 2 french + 3 english groups. 4 more guides are needed.

o 27th February, visit from TUMuenchen: contact person is Susanne, three guides needed from 09:30 to 10:30;

  • One more cleaning day is required in the hall extension. Volunteers, please come on Thursday, 14th at 09:30;
  • The meeting was followed by the seminar of Stephan Ulmer, "Proton/Antiproton Magnetic Moments and the Hyperfine Structure of Antihydrogen"
  •
  • Seminar next week: Emmanuel Clement “Recent Result from in-beam spectroscopy at GANIL in the 68Ni vicinity”
