0. Comments to the minutes of the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting of the 10.10.2012:

a. No comments.

1. Technical news - GPS

a. The intervention concerning the extraction electrode problem which was scheduled this Monday is postponed due to the target cooling requirement. The ALARA committee will decide on Friday about the new intervention date (most probably the coming Monday). The presently installed target will be decoupled and if possible replaced by a light target without a valve (probably CaO) at a later stage.

b. GPS will not be available until the end of the year (except possibly a CaO run)

2. Technical news – HRS

a. Au beam to LA1 and ISOLTRAP in the evenings and nights until past Friday morning.

b. Setup for REX on Wednesday-Friday daytimes: 30Na, 72Zn. Run moved from GPS. Yield checks done, 30Na not visible within detection limit. The MINIBALL programme was changed in order to investigate 210,212,214Ra isotopes. Unfortunately the high level of Fr contamination allowed only for studies of 214Ra (T1/2=5ms). Refined calculations by the MINIBALL team suggested a need of another change of the programme, this time to 48K. That beam was delivered through the weekend until Tuesday early morning with a short break on Monday. The quick preparation of the K beam by Didier and Fredrik is highly appreciated.

c. On Monday night the fan of the 7-gap resonator’s amplifier broke, the RF team started to work on this on Tuesday morning. 7-gap operational by the evening and Zn beam given to Miniball.

d. RILIS took the beam on Tuesday for setup, up to 10 pA of 72Zn observed, although no Zn mass marker.

e. Change of the HRS target shifted to Monday due to REX move to HRS. The new UC target with a different design of the neutron converter will be characterised in detail by the target group and will be then used by ISOLTRAP for investigation of n-rich Cu isotopes.

d. The change of the target heating to remote mode is scheduled for Monday.

3. Technical news - REX and RILIS

a. New synoptics for REX available, by the end of the week it should be available for ISOLDE as well. It is a web application showing the status of all beamlines and related equipment. An appropriate web link will be distributed next week.

b. On Friday RF-controls problem, related to the software changes for the new INCA software.

c. RILIS: Au until Friday morning, on Monday setup on Zn done. Zn available on Tuesday evening.

4. Safety

a. The isobutane bottle remaining from the MAYA experiment will be moved outside the hall.

5. Physics and schedule

a. ISOLTRAP and LA1 teams were looking for isomers in Au isotopes, only ground states observed, whose masses and HFS were measured.

b. The MINIBALL team investigated the shell evolution on the n-rich side of 48Ca by using the 48K beam.

c. Good intensity of 72Zn at MINIBALL observed.

d. The recent contributions by the technical team required by no physics at GPS are greatly appreciated.

e. Magda is not around on Monday and Tuesday. A replacement will be communicated later this week.

6. AOB

a. Next week Tommi Eronen will speak about “Mass spectrometry and decay spectroscopy around 132Sn”.
