a. ”FC390” should read “FC300”(ER). Will be corrected in the online version.

1. Technical news - GPS

a. On GPS, starting from Tue measurement LaC2 target #489 with F leak in order to produce Ba.

b. A vacuum spark was observed on Wed night, TA and light heating went down. Miguel called.

c. Thu morning: wait for p scan due to HRS intervention, afterwards yield check done (several measurement on Thu, Fri and Sat). The assistance of the TA team is greatly appreciated.

d. The magnet 70 (GPS) lost communication on Sun (around 11:00) and Mon morning. Magnet restarted.

e. On Mon target change to molten Sn #491, VADIS ion source, used by solid state and biophysics until Sunday. P-scan done at 19 after ½ day delay caused by HRS intervention. After ion source optimisation done by Tania, a rate of 1.2e9/uC (with 0.1uA p beam) 111Cd has been observed.

f. On-going collections on Tuesday. First collection seemed to be fine, later problems with the alignment.

2. Technical news – HRS

a. On Thu morning an intervention in the section 20: exchange of the FC. After entering a leak test confirmed the need of exchanging FC490. Since no spare available, the FC490 was replaced by FC300 after suitable modification in the hot lab. A blind flange was installed on the place of FC300.

b. Tim together with CATHI fellows performed some systematic studies of the cooler.

c. On Mon inspection of the Faraday cup, when pumping the affected sector all pumps went down. Contamination of the area observed. Second intervention scheduled on Tuesday.

d. Target changed to UC-Ta #490, to be used by LA1, isoltrap and CRIS. Target already heated, ready at any time. HV sparking at 50 kV.

e. The intervention scheduled on Tue morning did not find the leak, at 15 the leak reappeared, affecting the delivery of the stable beam. P-scan planned on Wed afternoon.

f. p-sharing (2.5uA) will be available.

g. Leak detector’s bottle was missing (found to be left inside HRS!)

3. Technical news - REX/RILIS

a. RILIS: change from Po to At isotopes. Yield check done, both narrow and broad operation mode available.

b. One laser returned from repair and another is available now as replacement, both used for pumping the Ta:Sa laser.

c: REX: replacement of the cathode available but will not be done now.

d. Measurements of the RF-trap impedance done, results available next week

e. Test with A/q=2 beam for HIE and TSR performed by Didier et al.

f. This and next week emittance check scheduled. Test of the leak at the RF amplifier.

5. Physics and schedule

a. GPS: is545 aiming for n-deficient Ba isotopes. Observed rates 122Ba: 1e3/s, 119Ba: 1/s, high intensity of Cs contaminant. Moved to 115Cs and 114Cs in order to test the experimental setup.

b. The p-beam at ISOLDE will not be available after 17.12.2012 morning (at least for some time).

6. Safety

a. The balloons need to be emptied soon

b. Radiation accident while working on the FC. Several people working in the area got contaminated.

c. Old test of GLM shows that 10% of the contamination can be removed.

d. ISOLTRAP got a safety clearance

e. Helmets and safety shoes will be needed during LS1. Since they are not really welcome by the ISOLDE community, a discussion is started in order to develop suitable procedures for small scale experiments, to be implemented after the LS1 period.

7. AOB

a. LN2 delivery problems understood: double holidays convoluted with a too early request. Please do not make a request more than two weeks in advance.

b. Please do not stack items randomly in the container close to building 601. Trash which is not sorted will not be taken away.

c. The FR2 fridge in the ISOLDE kitchen got open last week, please keep it open.

d. The Wi-fi connection in the ISOLDE kitchen finally available. Many thanks to Magda for a long and exhaustive fight to get it working.

e. The TA team is highly appreciated for doing particularly long hours last week.

f. Dinko Atanasov is a new PhD student with ISOLTRAP. Céline Van Beveren is joining MINIBALL for next weeks. Welcome!

g. There will be no crane available in week 42 (Mon 10:00 – Fri 16:00)

h. TSR@ISOLDE workshop 29-30.10.2012. https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceCFA.py?confId=200117

i. Please do not remove the booking sheets for the visitors room

j. The telephone in the ISOLDE kitchen is dead.

k. The meeting was followed by the seminar of Pauline Ascher “Studies on an exotic decay mode: the two-proton radioactivity”. https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=208279. Due to the Tape Station meeting there is no talk scheduled for the next week.
