Main Technical News:

  • On HRS, REX was running on Kr for MINIBALL. The next target UCx-W #477 for COLLAPS and CRIS was setup. The target was sparking at 40kV but this could be reduced. Transmission through the cooler is 70%. The booster performed some proton steering during setup.
  • On GPS, a ZrO-HP target #474 was mounted for SSP last Thursday. The line of this target, however, broke after several hours heating time due to a misunderstanding of the target data sheet. It was replaced by an old YO-HP target #446, which was used over the weekend, while a new target was under preparation. The new YO-HP target #476.awas put on and ready for physics on Monday afternoon and evening.
  • There have been fluctuations of the GPS beam on SC.482 and SC.483, which were also seen by the users on the FC. It is not clear yet what causes these fluctuations which already had happened earlier this year.
  • Also on GPS, proton resteering happened.
  • Further comment to the GPS slits (cp. Minutes from 16.5.2012): The reason that neighboring masses were seen during the run on neutron-deficient gold isotopes, was that the beam was so broad that it could pass the slits on the side.

REX/RILIS:

  • REX was performing fine for Kr.
  • This week: measuring the x-ray background from LINAC at MINIBALL in order to prepare shielding for the HIE ISOLDE LINAC, checking MCP’s. Planned: measuring REX emittance and tilted-foil tests with stable beam.
  • No news from RILIS.

Other Information from Technical Meeting:

  • The reason for the stop of HRS target heating last Sunday might be a leak in the gas inlet. This is being investigated.
  • There was a problem with HRS.680 working only on the 200pA-scale showing great fluctuations on other scales. This has been investigated and seems fine. However, if you notice strange behavior, contact Magda or Gerrit Jan Focker.
  • Sometime last week, the target vacuum stopped because the exhaust balloon was full. It has been connected manually to another balloon.

Physics/Schedule:

  • As expected, during the MINIBALL run on HRS, the 72Kr yield continuously dropped during the run (after 3 days of stable countrates), which couldn’t be fully counteracted by heating or proton intensity.
  • Target #446 showed no contamination on A=56,75,77 but the overall efficiency was low. Contrary to last year, collections could be done on A=75.
  • GPS target #476.a had nice efficiency but high contamination (as expected) on A=48,56,75,77. It could be however used successfully for most cases: Mössbauer spectroscopy on Co-57, online diffusion studies with 61Cu, or emission channeling on 73Se.
  • The GPS users acknowledge the great support by the target and operation groups to alleviate the initial error on the target heating.
  • COLLAPS will run with HRS on K-51 within IS 484.
  • The third trimester of the schedule (except for the last two weeks of the running period) should be available at the beginning of July. The last two weeks are reserved for rescheduling experiments that fail in the meantime.

Safety:

  • Radiation probes to be installed next to the beam line for monitoring will be soon ordered (preparation for HIE-ISOLDE).

AOB:

  • Non-member state summer students: There will be one more summer student from Malaysia joining ISOLDE. It is still under discussion who will supervise her.
  • Magda has spoken with the responsible for transport and gas deliveries. There should be no more deliveries to the old SAS. In the case of problems, please report it.

Presentation:

  • The meeting was follow by a seminar by A. Chatterjee on Nuclear Physics in India. The slides will be soon available in Indico
