Main Technical News:

  • On GPS, a Ta-HP #481 was used until last Thursday. There were no major issues., but maybe exhibited a low transport efficiency on one mass. This should be kept in mind for further beam tuning.
  • Now, the target Ta-GdB6 #479 is being prepared. A Cs mass marker was not put in this unit and there were problems using the Yb or Sm mass marker to tune the beam. However, after further heating the Yb mass marker both Yb and 137Ba could be used for tuning.
  • On HRS, the target UCx-Ta #480 has been running with RILIS on calcium with about 70% transmission through the ISCOOL.

REX/RILIS:

  • Setup with local ion source successful, emittance meter tests performed. Now setup with Yb/Ba.
  • A vacuum leak in the EBIS caused the first vacuum piquet intervention this year. The problem was quickly solved.
  • RILIS has been working on laser-ionization of calcium using auto-ionizing states. The laser/surface ionization ratio is about 200. The water-chiller problem occurred and was quickly solved last week during the run of IS 532.

Other Information from Technical Meeting:

  • The first slits of HRS (SL240), which are not used often, are not completely controllable. This is being looked into.
  • It is planned to remove the old display system for diagnostics tools like FCs in 2 weeks. From now on please use only the new system and promptly report any problems/bugs to Emiliano. The GPS scanner YGPS.SC483 has a wrong horizontal calibration. This is being looked into.
  • Beam was tuned to the fast tape station, but is has detection problems. Hardware has to be checked.
  • The water problem in the RFQ cage has been fixed.
  • The proton-trigger pulses T1GPS and T1HRS on patch panel P04 speak to each other. Since the meeting, this has been fixed by Pascal.

Physics/Schedule:

  • IS 537 saw the ground state of 184Hf and is now analyzing the data to look for the isomers, as well as for signs of 186Hf.
  • Collections were done on 180Hf and120Sb.
  • IS 532 measured successfully the mass of neutron-rich calcium isotopes.
  • There next two experiments will be COULEX on samarium isotopes. They will be followed by 11Be studies at LA1. The schedule for the last trimester is on its way.

Safety:

  • CERN has changed its liquid-helium dewars which are now too high for the ISOLTRAP platform. ISOLTRAP is still working on a solution with the CryoLab and cryogenic safety officers.

AOB:

  • More summer students will arrive, office space is provided.
  • Kieran received an inquiry for an internship of two high-school students. If you like to volunteer for supervising them, please contact Kieran.
  • Please register for the EURISOL week in Lisbon from 15. – 19. October: http://cfif.ist.utl.pt/~eurisol/.
  • The ISCC will take place on 3.7. from 11:00 – 17:00.
  • Magda will be away from Wednesday to Friday next week and Elisa will replace her.
  • There will be a call for HIE-ISOLDE proposals for the November INTC Meeting.
  • Other ISOLDE proposals will again be examined in 2013.
  • If the water in the ISOLDE kitchen is empty, contact Thomas Cocolios.

Presentation:

-There was no presentation this week.

-There will be a seminar by Jacob Johansen next week: http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=197671

-On July 9-11, there will be a lecture series by Sofia Quaglioni on no-core shell model calculations. Details can be found on INDICO:https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=197778.

-The summer-student talks will take place starting from the beginning of August. Please introduce your students to Thomas to arrange a date for their talks.
