Main Technical News:

  • The problem of a vacuum interlock turning off target heating happened again on 4.5. with target #473. MINIBALL IS 524 could run until 7.5., but it was then decided to turn the target heating off. Therefore, the planned tests on Cd and At with quartz line were cancelled.
  • The teslameter of one of the magnets of HRS was exchanged due to a fault.
  • The UCx-Ta target #474 was put on GPS 3.5. Communication problems with target heating could be solved by restarting the PLC. The intensity of various beams (Li, K, Tl, U) was not stable on 7.5. For an unknown reason, they became much more stable on 8.5.

REX/RILIS:

  • REX had the first run with Cd at MINIBALL for IS 524.
  • The Li-injection tests into REX EBIS did not go so well, there is about a factor of 5 missing compared to the results from 2010.
  • For Cs, 2 laser were used simultaneously for the first ionization step, the hyperfine structure of Cd-123 was scanned
  • Now, RILIS is setting up for At with 2 schemes to be tested
  • The beam-stabilization system (already used in the Cd run of COLLAPS last April) is working nicely.

Other Information from Technical Meeting:

  • The scanner YCB0.SC80 is not working. Magda will look into this (the problem has been solved in the meantime)
  • The Faraday cup YCC0.FC90 reads way too little current. It will be checked whether this is a faulty connection (the problem has been solved in the meantime).
  • The turbo pump which was making a suspicious noise in the LA0 section has vibration issues. Closing and opening the valve in front of it seems to solve the problem (temporarily).
  • There was temporarily no super-cycle signal due to a repeater module off in Rack 9 in the control room. If this occurs, please turn off the VME crate in this rack and put it back on. This should remedy it.
  • There is a new diagnostics program available. Please try it and give feedback to Emiliano or Andrea.
  • The users are reminded that they should always inform an operator before increasing the heating of the target or line.
  • Also, there should be one person in every shift of a running experiment who has solid knowledge of ISOLDE operations. This shift leader should communicate with ISOLDE and booster operators.
  • There was a successful test of ISOLDE cooling-water backup system. There has been a change of the power-breaker supplying mainly REX RF power. These breakers were causing problems earlier this year.

Physics/Schedule:

  • The schedule has been published until the end of August. The deadline for ENSAR funding is 13.5.2012.
  • The experiment running since the last meeting was the first MINIBALL run of this year. It was devoted to Coulomb excitation of 123Cd where RILIS was used for a broad scan of the gs and isomer HFS. The beam was ready one day earlier than scheduled and the run was successful in spite of the target vacuum problems.
  • Yorick asked for the next part of the schedule to be released earlier than it was the case for the last part of the schedule.
  • The next experiment will be beta-delayed fission on neutron-deficient At isotopes. Details on the physics case were given.
  • This will be followed by IS 518 on neutron-rich Au isotopes and a run on LA1 on Fr isotopes during the EURORIB conference.

Safety:

  • The new doors have been installed at ISOLDE SAS
  • The radiation levels when using the neutron-converter were factor 2 higher than last time. This is being investigated.
  • The phone is still missing in the ISOLDE SAS. It would be needed for people from the delivery or handling service to be able to call the responsible.

AOB:

  • A new GSM repeater will be installed in the hall.
