Main Technical News:

  • At PSB, one ring has a problem, which limits the protons per pulse to 3E13 for the moment. The problem is not yet solved and it is still under investigation.
  • The BTY line needed to be reoptimized, which is partly connected to wrong settings of one proton element and partly to the ring problem mentioned above. The transmission through the RFQ Cooler achieved with A=78 mass was close to 80% to the merging switchyard however, small losses were required in order to get the beam through to the CA0 line

Physics/Schedule:

  • ENSAR funding has been allocated for the second trimester of the schedule (until end of August).
  • The windmill experiment (IS 534) and ISOLTRAP (IS 518) were running on gold last week. Beta-delayed fission was studied on 196,198Au. No neutron-rich Au above mass 201 could be detected. HFS-studies were performed on neutron-deficient gold isotopes instead.
  • Since Thursday, MINIBALL has been collecting data on 72Kr (experiment that failed previously 2 times). The beam was available one day in advance the yields were very good, although – as expected – they were decreasing towards the end
  • The next target on HRS will be UCx-W for COLLAPS and CRIS
  • The next target on GPS will be ZrO-HP for GLM and GHM users
  • Karl is replacing Magda as coordinator (Wed-Fri).

AOB:

  • There will be a student visit at ISOLDE this Thursday.
  • Everybody is reminded that all ISOLDE visits should be announced to Magda, so that she can announce it to the safety responsibles and to the visit service of CERN to be counted.
  • Non-member state summer students: Thomas and Karl have been assigned students, Guilherme will not take a second student this year. Deyan still doesn’t have a student.
  • The“young kids at CERN” program is looking for supervisors in October, Yorick will send respective information per e-mail.
  • It was mentioned that the EURORIB conference had a very strong participation from ISOLDE.
  • The PC in the ISOLDE visitors’ room very slow. Someone should suggest a better solution (i.e. keeping it on at all times or creating one account for everybody). The computer should be able to access INDICO.
  • There are again quite a few things missing from the fixed experiments. Everybody is reminded to return the borrowed items!

Presentation:

  • The meeting was followed by a lecture by Rick Casten on proton-neutron interaction.
