1. Technical news

HRS

· First physics run (on HRS) with UC target #471 is close to finishing. in spite in many problems (see below) optical resonances on 49-52Ca were successfully recorded at COLLAPS.

· 50-52Ca yield checks from the UC-Re target are not conclusive. RILIS seems to give 10 x enhancement, but the surface ionization seems to be surprisingly low. To be investigated.

· First extraction electrode of the iscool causing problems.

· Fluctuations of the iscool voltage (on a few V level) has been observed on Friday/Saturday followed by discharges. Lowering the voltage from 40 kV to 30 kV was helpful. To be investigated after the run.

· The ISOLDE tape station which reached end of the roller without notice, leading to an intervention on Tuesday. Gerrit Jan will look into the new control software.

· HRS Faraday cup #20 readout was checked and it works correctly

GPS:

· Run with target #472 Ta/W +CF4 under preparation. Upcoming: stable beam (Wed 14.04), p-scan and yield checks on 183,184Hf (Thu 15.04)

· For next week’s tests with ISOLTRAP aAfast power supply to switch on/off the beam (connected to the user beamgate) has been installed. It requires different TTL triggering. It will be replaced by the usual power supply after this run

RILIS:

· After switching on, 10-100 times improvement in ionization for Ca (vs surface ionization). See HRS comments.

REX:

· Due to power cuts which happened last week a power supply for the bender had to be exchanged

· Rextrap: The reason for beam losses with cooling rf on is understood: One of the four rf signals was stopping too early, now it works fine.

· The software reading the proton beam intensity was not working properly. Now it is fixed, so please use it to record the data regularly in the logbook.

2. Physics and schedule:

· Magda is working on the next part of the schedule

· Collaps finished a very successful run aimed at investigation of n-rich Ca isotopes

· Phil’s experiment (IS537, b-gspectroscopy of 184Hf isomers) is supposed to start on Thursday on LA1

3. Safety

· HIE-ISOLDE: during the Long Shutdown many construction works are planned which may lead to transferring ISOLDE hall (perhaps partially) into Construction Site. This would mean that wearing safety shoes and helmets is obligatory. The representatives of the experiments please inform Magda how many people (in particular new ones) you are expecting to come and work during this period at ISOLDE.

4. AOB

· India is joining ISOLDE as a new member state and the MoU will be signed in Kolkata next week
