30 November 2011

1. Technical news:

· Separator courses took place in the beginning of last week. The last day was dedicated to the new users from the ISOLDE “in-house” group.

· At the end of the week the RFQ was realigned to improve transmission of laser light. After this the ion-beam transmission was still good, although one would need to redo their beam steering. Tests with Mn on COLLAPS indicated that the alignment is still not optimal as no effect was observed from optical pumping in the RFQ.

2.Physics and schedule:

· The online period for next year has been announced to be April 2- Dec 3. There will be no protons in 2013. Injectors are supposed to start in 2014 with first proton beams planned for May 2014.

3.Safety:

· The tripartite authorities (French, Swiss and CERN) visited the ISOLDE target area on Nov 21-st. The feedback was positive.

4.A.O.B.

· Power cuts are to be expected on 10-11 Dec.

· Power will be cut to experiments in the ISOLDE hall in the period 12-14 Dec.

· There will be a CERN-wide power cut on Dec 13 at 7am.

5. Seminars:

· Bradley Cheal (The University of Manchester) presented “Laser spectroscopy at the new IGISOL 4 radioactive ion beam facility”.

· For more information and links to the slides please visit the ISOLDE - seminars page.
