10 March 2010

1. Technical news:

· All mechanics of FE6 is now operational. The interlocks of the HV transformers and electrical connections have been checked as well. Final tests will be performed after the tests by the vacuum group are finished.

· The cooling system of the HRS has been tested. This still has to be done for GPS.

· Individual vacuum gauges are being tested in the experimental hall. Leak-detection tests are planned for all sectors after the work is finished.

· The control system for the vacuum performs satisfactory up to this point.

· The reason for unusual readings of some of the beam-diagnostics instrumentation was not found after an inspection. Tests just before the running period are being considered in order to further investigate the problem.

· The REX-EBIS is already cooled and energized. The vacuum problem seems to be connected with the lubrication of a turbo pump. The vacuum seems to improve with time.

· 665 shifts have been requested for the 2010 running period, 627 of which belong to 50 experiments approved by the INTC. There is room for about 480 shifts to be scheduled.

· Safety inspection in building 275 showed a considerably improved condition compared to the last visit. Guilherme Correia, with support from the ISOLDE coordinator, agreed to act as the TSO.

· A new safety officer (Ana-Paula BERNARDES) will support the ISOLDE technical group (and maybe the experimentalists) from this year on.

· The summer-student selection will be announced next week.

2. A.O.B.

· Gry Tveten presented her PhD project on possible HIE-ISOLDE spectrometer layouts.

· There will be no physics-group meeting on 17 of March. For the list of upcoming ISOLDE seminars click here.
