  1. Technical News
  • Problem with FC and deflector on GLM line : in order to avoid collisions, only one element should be inserted and one should wait 30 sec before inserting either the FC or the deflector plate
  • 43% of the SC is allocated for ISOLDE. At maximum intensity this gives 2 micro Amps of proton beam.
  • Vacuum problem in CD0 section. Penning gauge switches off causing the interlock to close the valve. Problem not yet understood.
  1. Experiments
  • Rb collections : Ta target was not giving good yields - reschedule with a UCx target
  • Last minute collections should not be performed, since RP needs to be notified.
  • GPS target change done and p-scane and yield checks on Friday. Proton scan on converter and target container. Ag beam will be used by many users.
  • Kr beam from HRS is being used by ISOLTRAP. Yields are good. 97Kr and 98Kr attempted, but due to short half lives and charge exchange, it might not be possible to get high precision (since long excitation times are needed). It would be a half-life record for ISOLTRAP ...
  • REX run on 94,96Kr was cancelled, due to an incident on the 9-gap resonator (the vacuum seal of the 9-gap broke and no high vacuum could be reached after that). Problems in finding a suitable vacuum seal (silver wire) delayed the experiment and finally it had to be cancelled.
  1. AOB
  • Kitchen : quotation for refurbishing and painting on the way.
  • Yorick, Alex, Jarno and Dennis attended the RNB8 workshop. Very interesting conference with good visibility of ISOLDE and impressive results from e.a. RIKEN and GSI
  • The advisory board of RNB8 and ENAM decided to join the two conferences. The first joint conference will be held in Leuven, Belgium in 2011. The periodicity of the conference has to be decided still. The name of the conference is not yet decided. Suggestions are welcome and should be send to Piet Van Duppen.
  • EMIS conference remains and will be held in Japan in 2012
  • Yorick attended the FRIB workshop in Argonne after the RNB8. A nice overview was given on the plans for FRIB at MSU.
  • The research board approved the proposal to explore neutron deficient Pb nuclei with Coulex. The allocated experiment number is IS494.
  • End of june there will be a meeting with the CERN managment on the status of HIE-ISOLDE. A statement on the commitment of CERN on the project will be asked for.
  • Thursday 4th june there will be an ENSAR (follow-up of EURONS) meeting in Paris aiming at reducing the budget from 14 MEuro to 10 MEuro.
  • Talk by B. Jonson on unbound nuclei

Minutes by Jarno
