TECHNICAL NEWS:

  • Works for the Long Shutdown are going on;
  • Most of the wall has been already cut;
  • ISOLTRAP users reported that, despite the many precautions taken to keep the surroundings clean, some dust comes out. Please, still consider to carefully cover any sensitive equipment you might have in the proximity of the works;
  • The gate (touniquet) to enter the ISOLDE premises from the Jura side has been removed. For entering the hall during LA period a temporary solution is considered in which the entrance door would be opened by the CERN ID card;
  • The work in the target areas is still in the stand-by due to the higher than expected radioactivity detected on the walls;
  • The offline separator is running and the RILIS group has already extracted laser ionized gallium beam;

GENERAL ISOLDE

  • The deadline for emptying the bldg.s 507, 115 and 601 is tomorrow 31st May.;
  • The bldg. 115 and 507,class B, have to be de-classified before the demolition can start
  • In order to de-classify the bldg.s, they have to be completely empty: samples will be then taken and checked for residual radioactivity;
  • In the technical meeting, Alexander reported on materials not properly sorted: during the operation of emptying the bldg. please take extreme care in sorting the trash in the appropriate containers;
  • A dedicated cupboard has been placed close to the entrance to the Control Room to store objects which are labelled as radioactive; this is in order to avoid having them spread around;

The meeting was followed by the seminar entitled “Investigating proton drip-line nuclei with Optical Time Projection Chamber” by Marcin Pomorski (University of Warsaw):
