1. Experimental and Technical news:
· GPS: Recent measurements with a dense UCx(imported from Russia) indicate that there is no significant improvement of the yields compared to the typical ISOLDE UCx targets. One hypothesis is that a slower release might be a possible reason.
· HRS: After a successful run on potassium at COLLAPS the week before, last week ISOLTRAP aimed at using their decay spectroscopy setup to identify the species kept in their trap. The masses of two states have been measured in 194Tl for the first time, and their decay could be accordingly assigned. Cleaning the two states in the trap did not work as expected due to the vacuum conditions. Nevertheless, the outcome is very positive also considering the nice physics results.
· HRS: The CRIS experiment obtained radioactive beam for the first time. The beam line was fully commissioned but a broken dye laser and some problems with FC readout and at the beamline prevented completing the full program. Other tests are ongoing.
· HRS: Rabbit irradiations on two Ge samples took place on Thursday.
· The work on FE7 (front end 7), which is to replace the one at GPS during this year’s shutdown is ongoing. The last development on site is a successful test of the corresponding emittance meter.
· Successful tests of a Si detector for beam diagnostics have been performed at REX.
· There is a bug in the ISOLDE faraday cup readout at 200-300pA, where the FC’s read sometimes 50% of intensity. This bug will disappear when a new system is put in place next year.
· Following the FC problem, it was decided that unsolved and recurrent problems will be put in the e-logbook consigne.
2. A.O.B.:
· Jean Paul Ebran (CEA Bruyères) gave a seminar on “Relativistic Description of the Ground State of Nuclei including Deformation and Pairing”.
· People who would like to come and work during the end of year holiday (Dec.22- Jan.4) should inform Catherine Zimmermann (Catherine.Zimmermann@cern.ch) at the PH secretariat.
· There will be no group meeting next week 01/12 (many people away and no seminar) nor the following week 08/12 (ISOLDE workshop).
· CERN-wide power cuts on December 9 (Thursday, 7-8AM) and December 11 (Saturday, multiple cuts at 9AM-8PM).
