1. Technical news:
· The robot handling the GPS targets is now repaired. The spare part arrived within 2 weeks instead of the initial estimate of 6. It was delivered today (Wed) and immediately installed. Currently the robot is being calibrated to the grid of target positions. The target change on GPS will take place on Monday.
· RILIS are preparing for the upcoming run on neodymium. Ionizing praseodymium was tried for a short time. Further test may take place later if time is available.
· Exceptionally solid-state physics had to move from the GLM line to LA1 for the experiments last week. There could be some concern about deposited activity, which might be detectable for later experiments on LA1 using very sensitive detection methods. The beams used were 101,103,111Cd and possibly their contaminants.
· There is a technical problem with the HRS door. Currently it is operational and in order to avoid delays of experiments repairs will not be undertaken. Hopefully it will work long enough for the repairs to take place at a more convenient time.
2.Physics and schedule:
· The swift repair of the GPS robot means that the physics schedule is now firm.
· Solid-state- and bio-physics experiments last week were very successful. They used Cd beams with Perturbed Angular Correlation method (including the new digital PAC system).
· MINIBALL is preparing for the run on 140Nd to measure the B(E2) by Coulex. Stable beam is currently being tuned in the linac. Proton scan and yield measurements will take place tomorrow (Thu).
3.Safety
· The portable radiation detector is at repair.
4.A.O.B.
· The INTC meetingwill be held next week. Several ISOLDE status reports and one addendum will be presented.
· There will be no group meeting next Wednesday due to the INTC meeting.
· A new key cabinet will be installed in the ISOLDE control room next week. It will be locked at all times and only users with a valid ISOLDE access will be able to open it by using their CERN badge.
· Henry Stroke from NY University joined ISOLDE for a sabbatical year.
· Morten Lund (Aarhus University) joined COLLAPS as a summer student.
5. Seminars:
· There will be no seminar next week due to the INTC.
· The week after Nobuaki Imai will present his research.
· For more information and links to the slides please visit the ISOLDE - seminars page.
