1. Technical news:
· Due to delays in target part delivery an old UC was used last week at GLM, but the performance was very good and very pure Ag beams were delivered.
· The Sunday thunderstorm was the reason for an unforeseen CERN-wide power cut, which interrupted the GPS experiments 1 hour before the planned end and caused many technical problems at ISOLDE (cooling water,vacuum, Tesla meters). CERN is investigating the exact cause of the power cut. In addition one of the Nd:YAG lasers of RILIS suffered and had to be sent for a repair. This will not disturb the scheduled experiments with RILIS. Also HV problems were identified to be related to the cooling water, where normal water had to be used. After flushing the system with demineralized water, the system was fine again.
· Due to technical problems with the new tape station yield measurements at HRS were moved to this week.
· The unforeseen delays due to the power cut limited the set-up time of REX. Nevertheless MINIBALL got their beam with a very short delay (big thanks to our technical team). A broken fan of a turbopump in the HRS area caused vacuum problems on Tuesday night, which were solved in the morning.
· It has been pointed out that there is not enough slots providing the proton trigger to ISOLDE experiments. It will be followed up.
· On Wednesday morning RILIS began to setup Tl scheme for experiments at GPS with a UC target, first at ISOLTRAP and then for beta-delayed fission at LA1.
2.Physics and schedule
· The solid-state- and bio-physics experiments at GPS last week were successful - various PAC measurements on Ag beams took place, along with biophysics collections for shipping.
· This week HRS is used by MINIBALL to perform 3 Coulex experiments: on 96Kr, 220Rn, and 208Rn.
· Next week GPS will be used for laser-ionized Tl isotopes: first for trap-assisted spectroscopy on ISOLTRAP and later for beta-delayed fission on LA1.
3.Safety
· There was a general ISOLDE safety visit last week. Several points have to be considered asap:
- One should remove cables lying on the floor;
- The condition of the storage places (in bldg 507) has to be improved ;
· The mechanical workshop is again in a bad condition and has to be put in order;
· Chemicals now have to be disposed by requesting it via EDH;
4.A.O.B.
· It was pointed out that recent yield measurements are not easily accessible by users. However there exist counter arguments for that. As a first approach one should refer to the online logbooks for that information. For more precise figures one can contact the target group.
5. Seminars:
· Nobuaki Imai presented his work before joining ISOLDE: " R&Ds at Tokai Radioactive Accelerator Complex".
· Next week Chong Qi (KTH) will present "Recent advances in the theory of nuclear alpha decay: 100 years after its introduction".
· For more information and links to the slides please visit the ISOLDE - seminars page.
