In the absence of YB, MK, and DY, the meeting was chaired by JP and the minutes taken by TEC.

1. News from the technical group:

• GPS provided beam to ISOLTRAP from a UCx target to study n-‐rich Fr. Successful run with 5 new masses and a new isotope discovered. Half-‐life measurement on the new isotope performed by the target group.

• GPS beam to CRIS during cool down for stable beam tuning test. A beam spot of 3x5mm2 was measured at the end of the beam, hereby confirming the SIMION simulations of that beam line and ensuring that the beam can be safely deposited onto the CRIS α detection system foils. 50% transmission achieved. Electrodes can handle a 60kV beam.

• GPS target change went on yesterday. New target is UCx (Ta + surface ion source).

• GPS magnet settings problems: the purchase of a new probe is being looked into.

• GPS had issues with target heating and a turbo that went off: the ‘isoop’ access was not sufficient to reset the vacuum problem and the operator had to come on site; the ‘isoop’ authorization level should be clarified. • The dry air bottles for venting from fixed lines are empty, however bottles on trolleys are available.

• HRS target change last week to YO+cold plasma. p-‐scan went on last Friday.

• HRS vacuum problems: 2 backing pumps are offline. One was borrowed from FW. The PLC also had to be reset.

• HRS-‐to-‐REX difficulties with injection.

• REX 9-‐gap failure on Friday afternoon. Fixed on Monday morning, failure on Monday afternoon. Attempt to use spare parts from LINAC3 hindered: those spare parts are becoming rare. Many burned contacts and marks on tube have been observed. Currently in touch with an external contractor: possible repair by the end of the week.

• REX delivered A/q=4 and 22Ne beams at 2.2MeV/u to MiniBall on Monday

• MiniBall experiment on 72Kr requires 9-‐gap to operate: no chance of beam time without it.

• REX-‐Trap test of charge exchange with Ar. • Diagnostics problems across the hall: one-‐day intervention coming up very soon to tackle those.

• Vacuum leak identified in the fast tape station. No drawings available to have precise idea. Situation under investigation. Consider sending part of the device back to Strasbourg for repair.

2. Safety:

• DV is gathering all the chemicals in ISOLDE to a single location.

3. Seminars

• !! CERN Summer Student Seminar by Antoaneta Damyanova (MiniBall) tomorrow at 10:30am in the main auditorium !!

• This week: ISOLDE Summer Student Talks by Lauriane Fouché (ISOLTRAP) on ‘ISOLTRAP Tape Station: synergy between mass and nuclear spectroscopy’ and Alexander Mottram (CRIS) on ‘Quartz crystal microbalance for mass deposition measurement’.

• Next week: 4 ISOLDE Summer Student Talks.

• 19-‐21 September 2011: Lecture Series on α decay by Piet Van Duppen, aimed at the Ph.D. student level, concluding on a seminar on September 21. For more information, contact TEC or PVD.
