1. Technical news and physics outcome:

· Technical problems with the REX nine-gap rf amplifier compromised the run on 72Kr at MINIBALL. Operation was recovered after intense work also during the weekend, which is highly appreciated. The specialists from the supplier company concluded that the problem is caused by the need of running the amplifier at its maximum. Our engineers are looking into a replacement with a more powerful unit. This will have to be custom made so it would be a considerable expense and would probably not be available before the long shutdown.

· TheY2O3 target provided a good yield of relatively pure 72Kr. Despite the loss of time due to the above problem MINIBALL was able to identify the Coulomb excitation in 72Kr and to confirm the feasibility of the experiment.

· During the time of repairs at REX, ISOLTRAP took the beam and attempted to measure the masses of 70,71Kr. However, the production was not sufficient to do the measurements. This means that target development will be necessary before the experiment can be scheduled.

· The next run at MINIBALL aims at COULEX of 30Na.

· There was a power cut at ISOLDE and at most of CERN accelerators on Thursdays, which was due to a power cable chopped off by mistake. No one was injured in the process. ISOLDE recovered relatively quickly, in particular vacuumwise. Apparently the power cut caused a problem with the PLC for the gas system, which does not seem to be too critical for the moment. The HRS slits got stuck as well, but later were recovered.

2.Schedule

· The main upcoming events are the REX setup and run on GPS this week, followed by SSP run with Mn on GPS, COLLAPS run on 51K and REX setup on HRS.

3.A.O.B.

· As announced by Yorick, ISOLDE has some additional funding up to 20kCHF, which could be used for improvements of the experiments. Projects related to safety are given priority. The maximum amount per project is 5kCHF. In order to apply, please, write an email to Yorick with Magda as cc containing a short description (5 lines max).

4. Seminars:

· Piet Van Duppen (Inst. voor Kern- en Stralingsfysica, KULeuven) wil give a series of lectures on “Shape coexistence in the lead region investigated using a multitude of experimental probes”. This will be happening in the period 19-21 September.

· Five of our summer students summarized their work in 12-min presentations as follows:

-Antoaneta Damyanova (MINIBALL, supervisor Janne)

-Lucas Peters (CRIS, supervisor Kieran)

-Morten Lund (COLLAPS, supervisor Deyan)

-Carlos Amorim (SSP, supervisor Guiherme)

-Seksembayev Zhandos (MINIBALL, supervisor Piet)

· Next week Kaj Gustav Ragnar Jansson (Lunds Universitet) will present “Two level scheme solvers for nuclear spectroscopy”.

· For detailed information please visit the ISOLDE - seminars page.
