Minutes of the ISOLDE Physics Group Meeting, November 30th 2016

Liam Gaffney clarified that the SPEDE tests were performed with using 132Xe on 196Pt and 154Gd targets, 207Bi was only used for the initial source tests.

Technical news

  • GPS/HRS
  • Since Monday last week the facility has started preparations for winter hibernation.
  • The closed cooling water system was stopped, however the tap water is still available.
  • REX/HIE-ISOLDE
  • There were a few HIE-ISOLDE tests going on last week. The HIE-ISOLDE optics are still not fully understood, the observed peak shape has a shoulder on one side. The cause is still under investigation.
  • The REX tests went fine. It was noticed however that the GPS beam was jumping in the scanner from time to time, perhaps due to an instability with the high voltage supply.
  • The reconditioning of the 2 cavities of cryomodule 1 went well. The cryomodule will not be removed again next year for maintenance. In what concerns the short-cut observed on the solenoid, the floating current solution which was applied this year will be kept for next year too.
  • The vacuum leak on cryomodule 2 is still under investigation, but the cryomodule will remain in place.

Physics and schedule

  • The next deadline for INTC proposals was announced for January 11th. The corresponding INTC meeting will take place February 8th.
  • Cryomodule 3 will be transported to ISOLDE for installation on January 24th

Safety

  • A preparatory meeting for the safety inspection of the OFSP (Office Fédéral de la Santé Publique) will be announced.
  • It is recommended that users leave their setups in good order for the beginning of next year.
  • The aDaMS system at CERN has changed. The new interface is significantly different and it makes it difficult to find the old pages of interest.

AOB

  • Next week the ISOLDE workshop will take place, Wednesday to Friday (07.12-09.12). It will be preceded on Tuesday by the NUSPRASEN workshop, which is meant to bring together experimentalists and theorists on topics of interest for the EURISOL DF project.
  • Some access problems to the chemistry lab in b. 508 were reported, to be checked.

Seminar

The meeting was followed by a seminar of Thierry Stora from CERN on CERN-MEDICIS: Innovative radioisotopes for medical applications.

The next PG meeting will be held Wednesday December 14th at 14:00.
