17 January 2013

Errata corrige from SK on the minutes of the previous Meeting of the 10.01.2013: “No internet in the ISOLDE buildings from 25th to 27th February (it was January)”

TECHNICAL NEWS: no technical meeting this week.

GENERAL ISOLDE HALL:

  • Maria thanks everybody who participated to the cleaning campaigns in Building 275 (Tuesday afternoon) and Building 170 (Thursday morning). The cleaning up is going on, smoothly, the equipment has not yet been moved to their final storage place but it has been already labelled and classified;
  • Dewars in the hall: as delicate to handle devices we do not want to send the ISOLDE dewars to the long storage place. However in 2013 maximum 5 dewars are allowed to be at ISOLDE for the operations of the low energy setups (ISOLTRAP, ASPIC, WITCH) and REX. Please be collaborative, they are in common use. The remaining dewars are still looking for a final storage place, possibly B275.
  • Maria will ask for a large LN2 tank permanently placed outside the hall so that users can take the LN2 whenever they need without going through many Purchase Requisitions every week.

PHYSICS AND SCHEDULE

  • Preliminary Schedule for CERN beam in 2014:

o 21st June protons ready to be sent to ISOLDE;

o 15th December: stop protons to ISOLDE (CERN winter stop).

AOB:

  • Reminder: ISOLDE beginning of shutdown Party tomorrow, Friday 18th January at 16:00 in 26-1-022 (the ISOLDE visitor’s room);
  • ISOLDE will take some Summer Students also this year: in the next meeting we should have a brief description of the projects;
  • AnnaPaula confirmed that the LS1 at ISOLDE starts on 1stMarch, thus safety shoes and helmets are required to enter the hall from this moment;
  • Visits in Isolde:

o Korean students on 24th January, 16:00. Yacine and Didier are already enrolled, Karl will also help;

o University of Surrey students on 29th January; Kara is the 1st guide,

o TUMunich students on 26-27th February;

o 18th-21st February: Open week at ISOLDE for the CERN personnel. It will be announced on the next CERN Bulletin;

  • The new public CERN website is looking for colored ISOLDE data plots (see examples at www.cern.ch/home, refresh manually every 1min). If you’d like your plots to appear, please send them to Magda (with a short title and caption), who will forward it to the web responsible.
  • the CERN Communication Team will kindly help us in changing the style of the ISOLDE webpage to CERN standard; if you have any suggestions concerning the website content and/or its position within the site, please send them to Jenny and Magda
  • Conferences: the deadline for abstract submission to the INPC conference is postponed to 25thJanuary. Maria suggests also the ANIMMA conference in Marseille on“Advancements in Nuclear Instrumentation Measurements Methods and their Applications”;
  • New CERN user registration: Magda gave some clarifications concerning the “Home Institution Declaration”. The form can be signed by administration ( HR) or management (institute Head or Director). Team leader and deputy CANNOT sign this declaration, UNLESS they are the Institute Hear or Director. Please let Jenny and Magda know how your registration went, especially in case of problems.
  • The meeting was followed by the seminar of Zaher Salman on "Investigation of thin films and interfaces using beta detected NMR and muon spin relaxation”.
  • Seminar next week: Carlos Guerrero Sanchez, "Physics with neutron beams at the CERN n_TOF facility". https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=223371

  • REMEMBER THAT NEXT WEEK THE MEETING IS ON WEDNESDAY.
