19 October 2011

In the absence of YB, MK, and DY, the meeting was chaired by TEC and the minutes taken by JP.

1. News from the technical group:

· HRS provided neutron-rich Zn beams to ISOLTRAP and LA1 from a UCx target equipped with tungsten neutron converter and quartz line. These isotopes required RILIS. Proton current had to be lowered twice from 1.6uA down to 1.2uA to avoid triggering of radiation alarms.

· Molten Pb target installed on GPS on Monday. To be used by solid-state and bio-physics groups.

· An expert investigated RILIS temperature fluctuations. So far, the solution for too efficient cooling of laser cabin was solved by guiding part of the cold air outside, but that still causes some temperature fluctuations.

· Main access to ISOLDE was down for a short while on Tuesday.

· REX delivering 22Ne beam for MINIBALL over Wed-Thu night.

· HRS target change next week, cooling starts next Monday.

· CRIS volunteered to take beam on Monday after TISD has finished.

2. Physics

· ISOLTRAP measured mass and half-life of 82Zn, this involved much effort from lasers (retuning every ~20min). They also tried to measure 83Zn but it was too challenging.

· LA1 measured the half-lives of low-lying excited states in 79,80,81Ga isotopes (daughters of 79,80,81Zn) and 73Ga for a request. Several technical problems in the beginning (Saturday).

· Both groups, LA1 and ISOLTRAP expressed their gratitude for people involved, namely ISOLDE support and RILIS teams.

3. Safety:

· SSP users had problems renewing their film badges due to 2 months annual limit and full safety courses.

· Prepare for a possible safety visit on 21.11.2011.

4. Seminars

· ISOLDE physics group meeting was followed by seminar by Dr. Sung-Ha Park on “Structural DNA Nanotechnology and Its Applications”.

· Monday seminar on TRLO II cancelled.

· Seminar on Wednesday by Alex Murphy.
