29 March 2012

Main technical news:

- On HRS, SC680 and SC483 have been fixed. The first physics target - UC-Re (#471) – has been put on yesterday

- On HRS, the remote control for heating is not working, still no beam through the cooler (note after the meeting: it was fixed in the afternoon).

- On GPS, beam has gone through the separator, the remote heating is working. SC483 needs replacing with an ALARA procedure. Ta-GdB6 (# 470) for a TISD run on Sm will be put on today or tomorrow.

- For both separators, RILIS has done the alignment into the ionizing cavities.

- SEM grid tests have been successfully performed for both separators, so the protons are now ready to be sent to both GPS and HRS.

REX/RILIS:

- The problem with controls at REX has mostly been solved.

- REXTRAP has seen trapped ions, but it is is not working correctly with the rf on at the moment, although the rf jitter problem has been solved.

- Beam is coming out of the EBIS but still with a few problems

- The LINAC is working but has not yet seen beam.

- RILIS is preparing for Sm tests (tests with a LIST target and RILIS on Mg has been cancelled)

Other Information from Technical Meeting:

- The presentation by Tim or Pascal for the timings T1 and T2 is cancelled. Instead Magda will give a short overview tomorrow, Thursday, March 29th, at 10am in the control room. Tim / Pascal will be providing documentation.

- Since some user pumps were affected by the vacuum incident from last Thursday, March 22nd, Magda was asked to inquire details.

- The jitter on general electricity in the hall has not been disturbing the Technical Team. Magda has been asked to inquire at the technical meeting in Prevessin.

- New ISOLDE tape station: The group from Strasbourg is currently performing maintenance on the tape station. Apparently, they also plan to install a new software for remote control.

- The Working Sets have changed. We are advised to load our settings (when not disturbing the Technical Team). In case of problems, please contact Emiliano.

- Emiliano and Tim have been working on a SIMPLEX optimization for beam transport. If you would like to use it, contact them.

Safety:

- All dewars should be moved out of the new SAS (either into the hall if empty, or in front of the new SAS if awaiting filling) today. The new SAS will be painted Thursday (29.3.) and Friday (30.3.). All users are requested to enter through the kitchen during that time. If you have to handle goods or heavy equipment, contact Magda.

Physics/Schedule:

- The weekly schedule for week 13 has been published. The HRS online physics programme should be on time.

- GPS is currently about 1 day behind, thus the RILIS tests might move to next week.

Summer Students:

- The projects which have not been allocated a summer student in the first round were asked to make a second selection. The projects for non-member state students have not yet been contacted.

Visits:

- TU Munich group on 30.3. in the morning, responsible: Susanne

- Leuven group on 2.4. in the morning, responsible: Thomas

- Geneva and Pays de Gex teachers on 3.4. in the morning, responsible: Magda

AOB:

- The CERN artist Julius van Bismarck will present his art ideas tomorrow, 29.3., from 1-2pm in the ISOLDE visitors’ room and printer room.

- Also this Thursday, there will be a science library talk in the CERN library on the recently published “Energy Survival Guide” at 4pm: https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=183404

- The Ge detector with the Be window has come back from repair. To use it contact Jan.

- New racks have been recuperated and will be available for everybody’s use

- A new NIM crate and DAQ scope will be available through Jan.

- The chemical cupboard (with ethanol, acetone, etc) close to NICOLE is ready for use by everybody, the key is in the key cabinet.

- Monika is preparing the chemical lab in bldg. 115. Since she will store sensitive equipment there, everybody who wants to work in the chemical lab, will have to follow a short safety introduction given by Monika.

- ISOLDE welcomes: as a new master student Antoaneta Damyanova supervised by Elisa and a new PhD student Abel Fenta supervised by Guilherme.

- Susanne presented a new layout/template for presentations to be used by members of ISOLDE. Since the ISOLDE Physics Group approves of the template, Yorick will now discuss it within the ISCC.

Presentation:

- The meeting was followed by a presentation by Ralf – a member of the RILIS team – on latest developments concerning a user controllable laser shutter and data feedback. He will provide a user guide. It was suggested to make the RILIS data (wavelength, laser power, etc.) available as a log file after each run to support data analysis. This will be looked into. If you have further suggestions concerning data logging and/or representation for users, please contact Ralf.
